installed my 2nd gen alternator
Installed my 2nd generation alternator on Tues. I have to give thanks to mar3 for his writeup and his help in PM. When I took the alternator off the 2nd gen car, I also got the spacer from the car hoping it would work on my 12a. Long story short, I had to grind a couple of millimeters off the 2nd generation spacer to get it to work. I also installed my dual pulley on the alternator and installed dual belts.
When I removed the air pump belt, I was somewhat curious to know how the car would react. My car had been constantly backfiring with the smog pump working. Well, now that it is gone, the car does NOT backfire at all! I find it all interesting.
The butt dyno says I got 100 hp increase and now my skins seems healthier. People talk to me again and my bad breath is gone.
In all seriousness, thanks again mar3 for the writeup and diagrams.

Yeah, griding down the spacer is a pain in the ***..... esp when the only tool you have on hand is a file.... damn that took a long time.
Glad the swap went well, enjoy a little more amperage!

and I thought it was a PITA with a dremel!
I wonder if I can sell my extra current to the local power station?
Well, I know now that at least when I install the electric fan that I will have the current to push it.
