Installed Header,, now smokes?
I just installed a rotary engineering header onto my 82 and now she smokes quite a bit . It smells like oil. Has anyone else had this happen? Should I take out the oil metering pump and premix? Suggestions

did you remove the cat? it could be that the cat was burning up the smoke and now it's not getting burnt up. it could also be paint or some other contaminate burning off the header. Maybe the guy who had it before you blew an oil seal and the inside of the header was coated in oil and now it's buring off.

When teh oil control rings go, do they constantly smoke? I think i was just burning some paper gasket out. It doesn't seem to smoke anymore so like I said I was just wondering if the rings only smoke sometimes or all the time.

Oil control rings usually start with high RPM smoke when getting off the throttle, and smoke on cold starts, more if the car has not been started for a few days.
I bet there was oil coating the inside of the header, and that was your smoke issue. It could also have been the OMP stuck wide open.
