Which Cosmo are you thinking of? There were four generations of Cosmo. Only one (the second generation, the RX-5) was officially sold in the US, although there are some first-generation models (110S) that found their way here.
And besides, you know what I meant. No need to mask it in sarcasm.

I don't really consider any of the rx's to be sportscars like the rx7 is. That's what I'm saying.
Oh, on that note, I just watched a show about road ralley in europe and some dude in an rx-4 was doin real good. I'm not saying they're bad cars y'know.

Wow, it is a bit hostile here....lol. I myself am thinking of doing a v-8 swap. Its a rough decision cause of the coolness factor of having a rotary versus the expense of actually fixing a worn motor. V-8's are far more plentiful than rotarys are but I don't want the stinkbug handling.

Screw the R&P, that bitch has a de Dion rear suspension!
What's a de Dion?
It's a solid axle rear suspension, with the differential mounted to the body, for reduced unsprung weight, while maintaining the camber control advantage that a solid axle has. (If you ever looked under the back of a AWD Dodge Caravan, it has a leaf sprung de Dion suspension)
de Dion was the height of coolness back then.
Basically Mazda spared no expense when designing the 110S. Similar to how Toyota made the 2000GT, another forgotten sports coupe from the late 60's.

I think thats awsome!!
However merely a drag racing machine and no more. THere is a Mitsubishi Starion with a 406 big block chevy motor in it on autotrader too. http://www.autotrader.com/findacar/v...r=&cardist=149 Thats not a bad price too if its in good shape. Oops wait a sec! This is an rx7 forum!

Now now, we can't pick on him too much. I'm sure that you can tell by the post that he's just easily misled by his mustang fanatic friends. So just leave him to his look at me games, and I'm gonna's, because he'll eventually give up, and buy a rustang, and ebay the 7 as a rolling chassis.

Speaking as someone who has done the swap, and actually ownes a running V8 RX-7, I really need to address some of the things said in this post.
1. "I don't car what people say, a V8 RX7 will never handle like a rotory powered one"
Correct. Any change will cause things to be different. My 302 RX may only pull 1.2G's in full race trim vs. 1.3G's with a rotory motor, however I promise I'll be lapping 2-3 seconds faster thanks to the torque coming off turns. Personally though I'd like to know how you made this assumption. I'm making it because I know where the CG of the 302 is, most people jsut assume the weight balance is all fugged up, or the car plows like a pig. My background is I've raced a 12a for the last 2 years, and now I race my 302 in tight autoX settings. It handles everybit as well as my 12a did, only it's about 1,000,000 times more fun to drive.
2. "V8 RX-7's are drag race only"
TOTALLY FALSE. I take my car up the mountains twice a month. It handles great, with no more understeer than the stock car, and as much oversteer as I want. I autoX it every chance I get, and usually win. I distroyed a Z-06 this last race, and with race tires probably would have been in the top 5. This is on my bone stock suspension. As it was I was less than 3 seconds off FTD in a Saleen with full track suspension and slicks. Anyone that says the car handles poorly just proves to me they have no idea what they're talking about.

All this talk about pistons is making my rotors hurt
85rotarypower:
I have ridden in 2 V8 Rx7s, both 302's. I have a close friend that I raced in my GSL-SE. He pretty much destroyed me in the straights but I could pull away in the turns. Note, the difference was not huge but it was noticable. We are always messing with each other which is best.....but soon the SE will rule in all aspects, not just handling
Personally, I love rotaries. The design, and engineering envolved is amazing. I don't down V8's their just not my thing. But what I said is true.....they don't handle the same.
Good luck to all
