idling problem

I was wondering if anyone could help me? I removed the rats nest on my 85 gs and just switched the secondaries to mechanical. I also took off the carb and the little butterfly in the port going into the engine i removed it cause it wasn't hooked to anything. I put it all back together now and it wont stay running unless you hold the gas so it wont idle on its own. I tried to mess with the mixture and idle screws but it didn't make a difference. Also you can see the fuel being shot into the secondaries but not the primaries. Please help me.

Did you plug the holes that were left when you removed the shutter valve? If not, you have a major vacuum leak and that can give the same results you have. Learned that one the hard way. lol

I prefer to drill, tap and install a bolt, with JB Weld as a sealer. I don't trust sticking a lump of it in there to plug a hole when it does soften with heat. I like my apex seals where they are.

oh cmon it isn't a lump - the hole is not that big. Plus the quick version is pretty good at solidifying like a rock. But your method sounds good.
