ive checked out mazdatix a few times a like wat they have to offer. racing beats has a lot of **** that caught my eye too. im thinkin ill just stick with getting a new exhaust sytem, a new fan ( cuz i like the sound difference), and give my car a good tune up. so wat do u think the best brand to go on new pipes would be?

HEY!!! Why dont you take your little fight somewhere else! You are in no way contributing to this thread.

I would save up for a good exhaust first. It is one of the most easy ways to gain a lot of power quick. Then upgrade your ignition, another easy one. Lastly upgrade your fuel system, I say upgrade this last because this will be the most expense mod. Chances are you will need tuning products, new fuel pump and FPR, etc...

Oh yea get a k&n and cut holes in your air box. Always a good way to get more airflow (lol)

Yeah, it's getting childish. I've contributed to this thread, and I'll continue to help and contribute if anyone asks anything else of me. That other guy just trolls around for me, and I have to defend myself.

Also, as Matt above said, cut your air box. Just do a few holes around, leaving just enough metal to support the lid (not much needed). Free, easy mod.

ok so i went and checked out rx7.com and looked at wat they had to offer for exhaust. would it be best for me to just buy the muffler they have there or invest in a whole new system?

It would be much better to invest into a full exhaust. If you have an exhaust shop in your area take it there and run a straight pipe to a Racing beat power pulse muffler. THat way you will have the flow you want and sound you like.

I think that would be kind of loud. I'd put in a presilencer to quiet things up and improve the sound a bit. But whatever you like. The RB system suits me fine. It's not obnoxious, it looks good, and bolts up no problem. If ya have $650 sitting around, buy it! A muffler will give you 5 hp max, and you can do just about that with a good tune up.

yeah a muffler does only free up around 5hp compared to the (dont quote me on this one) but i think around 18hp for a full exhaust....ALSO! if you do have porting in mind for the future buy the 12a streetport exhaust for example instead of the stockport one...save money and you leave a window open for possibilities

And another option for the carbs, is to fit two HIF44 carbs - I'm not sure what cars had them in the US, but plenty of old cars had them in the UK, and they sell for about £20 each on ebay

dead easy to set-up (one needle and a mixture screw!) and you can make an inlet from some sections of tubing and flat metal if you have a welder - and if you go by the hype given by some websites, you gain a bit more low-down torque, and slightly more mpg over standard, whilst getting decent fuelling

They're capable of supplying 240cfm each, which means that when you use 2 (as you should) then you've got 480cfm of flow. After some very slight modding (it can be done in like 10 mins for each carb with a dremel) then you should see in excess of 600cfm! Now considering that a modded 12a will apparently take around 340 CFM @ 8400 RPM, you've got a hefty amount of headroom left over! (hell, you could probably get away with using just one if your engine wasn't modded too much)


I forget what site it was that I got this info from - but here's the pic of their inlet+carbs, meant for a 20b. Just look at how simple it is!








also, one of my mates have done tests on a couple of different cars (including a classic mini, which has the carbs squeezed between the firewall and exhaust manifold!) and when driving at above 20mph, the engine bay temps are virtually the same as the outside ambient temp! So I'd save your cash by not making/buying a cool-air intake if I were you



and one more thing to do that can be done in 20 mins - instead of venting you engine breathers to atmostphere when ripping out the rats nest, plumb in a catch-can to it, with an in-line fuel filter linking it to the inlet.

Nearly all of the oilly fumes and crud get removed (oil reduces the octane rating of fuel, so this is a good thing!) whilst still keeping a vacuum source connected to your crankcase, which means you gain a little more power compared to just running the breathers to atmosphere. This is true for almost every petrol NA car out there!!

ok. now since im a newbie, here come all the tech q's. ive heard and read a lot about porting your engine, but i still dont fully understand wat that means. and then ive also heard a lot about rats nests. wat are they, where are they at and wat do they do?

Porting- If your engine needs a rebuild, then you'd do this at the same time. Basically it is opening up the exhaust and intake ports to gain horsepower, but alot comes with that. Many people have done this themselves. If you do this, you'll want to buy a new carb to accomidate the extra "breathing room". The port jobs can go from small to enormous- street port (small), bridge port (bigger), Peripheral port (bigger), and Race port (huge for racing). if you port, depending on the size, you'll need a bigger exhaust and intake. This piles up the money. Many people have had success turbo-ing for cheap. FBII (forum name) did his with some very powerful results along with many others.

Rat's Nest- A bunch of vaccuum lines and other stuff that clutters up the engine bay like a "rats nest". This seems ot be an easy fix that anybody can do with the help of the write-ups done here. I'll do a search and help you out with this. By the way, just about any question you have can be answered with the search function, but if you cant find what you're looking for then starting a post will trigger some minds.

alright thatnks a lot guys. i really need all the help i can get. i have the only rx7 (that ive seen or that any of my friends have seen) within about 50 miles of where i live so theres really no1 near by to help me. so if u guys have any tips and tricks that u dont mind explaining, i would greatly appreciate it.
