I think my headlight warning beep is broken
My car ('85 12A) has been making this soft squeaking sound for a couple days. It's the same pitch as the "BEEP BEEP BEEP" warning you get when you open the door with the key out of the ignition and the headlights on. It's not the same as the buzz sound you get when you leave the key in the ignition and open the door. The headlight warning beep no longer works, it makes a soft beep and dies. Sometimes it will start squeaking while its parked with the engine off. Sometimes I can get it to go away by turning on the headlights or when I turn off the car. Other times, I can't do anything to make it go away.
I'm 99.9% sure that the squeak is from the headlight warning beep, can anyone tell me where the module is that controls this?

I've been waiting for this to show up on somebody else's RX7! I searched all over the forum for this problem to no avail.
I get the same soft intermittent beep, but it sometimes gets loud, then eventually dies. I noticed that if I turn on my headlights, it goes down but not completely away. I don't think the headlights have anything to do with the beep because if I turn the rear defrost, or the heater fan, the beep dies down a bit too. Must be related to current consumption.
From what I've read so far, the beeper is in a black box in back of the dashboard. Someone on this board mentionned that this box must be the first piece they put in the car cause it's real hard to get to.
I'm sure our cars have the same problem, I just haven't found any solution yet. Maybe some other board members will know what we're talking about.

My 7 is 1 hour away from where I live, I work on it only in the weekends and my battery has never died over a 5 day period with this beeper on (intermittently of course).
Any other forum members know how to fix this problem??

Okay, I think I have solved it. I took apart the dash, and the noise was coming from the back of the gauge cluster (as in actually on the cluster). I unplugged this two wires connected with a plastic connector to the back of the cluster and the squeaking noise went away. Everything else works as far as I know, even the buzzer for leaving the key in the ignition with the door open. The only that doesn't work is the beeper for leaving the lights on.

That "module" is located on the back of the instrument cluster. There a 2 of them. One controls the tach ~6500 buzzer, the other the headlight on beeper. It is dead. De-soldier the connections and get a new one at Radio Shack. The RS will only have 2 connectors, but it will still work. That is, if you want it to beep...

Huh? Headlight on warning?
I've heard of it, but never had it on mine... Also no sound when I have no coolant or oil. (Coolant low sensor is broken, I've started the car with the ignition disconnected to pump all old oil out.)
The only sound I have is when I open the door with the key in...
There is one module I am aware of that may cause these missing sounds... It's near the battery, mounted to the radiator support, behind the left headlight. It's labeled "Oscilator"
