I think the people before you were the harsh ones. You actually said some helpful things. He may have pm'd you because you seemed the most civil at that point. I've been on here going on 3 years and I have very few posts. I just tend to use the search button more then others. I have 2 RX-7 and I'm nowhere near the as knowledgeable as some on here. I think he overreacted a bit, but I can't blame him for thinking that this site is full of asses. I don't like the body and exhaust mods he was talking about doing, but I'd atleast show him a little civility since he is new. Hopefully he will come back and maybe we can help him see light as far as his modding goes. If not, i'm just glad I won't have to see a 7 with 8 tails on it.

I was surfing around the 3rd Gen board Friday looking for some info and was amazed at all the "flaming of Noobs" and others going on there. I was thinking that 1st Gen is typically not like that (good-natured bantering but no one is usually nuke'd) and was feeling good about it. Then Trochoid posted this thread. I commend Trochoid for not only his response to DoubleJ's pm but also for bring it to the 1st Gen forum for discussion. I have been a member of this board for a while and have found the info available here in threads, stickys, FAQ's and the other forums invaluble. I have an 85 GSL-SE that has been my daily driver for 12 trouble-free years because of this board and boards like it. Hanman is correct about (www.mazspeed) the difference between these two sites is "night and day." I can't calculate the money I have saved and the mistakes I have avoided but coming to sites like these to learn from fellow 1st Gen's (I'm a search and FAQ's kind of guy.) I see posts here quite frequently by long time members that have been covered in-depth in other areas of this site (eng's, interior/exterior, audio, keeping your 7 clean etc) that would turn-up on searchs or checking the FAQ's sections and no-one is "poked in the eye" over it. If you reply to a post you consider that not everyone comes to this site with their "kevlar skivvies" on. Remember we ALL have one thing in common, our love for our RX-7's. It should be a good starting point for discussions. Everyone is intitled to their opinion's but it wouldn't hurt to ask yourself "why before you reply" to a post.

Most of you anti-ricers are incredibly huge dicks to new people, so I see where they come from. You need to make examples of them yes, but examples to follow - not fear. If new people see other people getting raped by a few anti-rice idiots on the forums every day, it is more likely to shrink our community and hurt EVERYONE in the long run. Instead you could show them 'the light' or what greatness can come from being able to pull an 11 or 12 on a quarter. No matter what your point of view is, someone else will always dissagree... So just grow up and either work with them, or shut up.
Very well said. I'm sorry to say that my 2nd Gen forums have a lot of flamer posting idiots, it ruins not only their post, but also the surrounding posts.

As the saying goes, "Diplomacy is the art of telling someone to go to hell in such a way that they look forward to the trip."
Diplomacy is a virtue, yes. But we're all over-looking one glaring fact:
Right now there is a stock 1st gen that is in imminent danger of having the *** riced off of it by an uninformed, dis-illusioned, over-sensitive, insecure celibate-against-his-will rebel without a clue.
While we might be able to save this guy from himself with kid gloves, a lot of encouragement, a hug and a sloppy wet kiss, I for one am more concerned about the car than I am for him.
Here's what Trochoid needs to do:
Pm him and apologize for being "such a dick". Explain that his rebuttal has made you realize that you are but a worm in a veritable sea of worms picking over a rotting corpse, and that sometimes you don't know how you can put up with yourself. Tell him that your own mother hates you and has made herself the beneficiary of a life insurance policy on your carcass, a policy that she is currently scheming to cash in on--- soon. Also tell him that you don't blame her one bit for this.
Then slowly change the subject back to his car. Convince him that these cars are completely worthless and not a good investment when it comes to mods, especially since with the same mods "Civics look better, go faster and attract more chicks than an old out-dated RX7 would." (Fail to mention of course that these chicks have a collective IQ per dozen of a typical cabbage and are all under 14, but that even they wouldn't go for a geek like him).
Then after you've convinced him to buy a Honda you can offer to "take that worthless rotary-engined 7 off his hands" and then offer to come by and tow it away "for a very reasonable fee."
Voila! One more 1st gen saved from ricer hell, and one more ricer back among his own kind.

This is a damn good thread. All i have to say is that (and this has already been brought up) but this section of the forum (the 1st gen section) is the reason why my FB is in great running shape ......AND if i didn't have this forum i probably would have gotten discouraged at this little unique and akward 12A engine and gotten rid of it. Being on here has really opened my eyes to these cars and these engines are now my hobby (more like obsession). And this is on a side note but yes I know in the lounge i post some STUPID *** crap but thats all in good time passing fun. I do not bring it to this part of the forum though. I love the fact that the 1st gen section is more technical than anything else and I personally want to keep it that way. From one 1st gen lover to another (all you guys on here) i just want to say Thanks for the help in the past and thanks for the help that i will need in the future.
