I need your help! Drop a turbo 13b in my FB, or selling it for a Lexus turboed SC300
I need your input. (I know I haven't been posting for a while...)
I have some money to spend, for now close to 4k and later in a few months some more. I need to give my daily driver to my wife and I'm considering selling my 1985 race prepped RX-7
1) sell the rx7 and get a beat up lexus SC300 (cut a deal for one for a 93' for 3k with 18" wheels 5 speed, some frt suspension damage) and build a turbo 2JZ for it. I already owned an SC400 before and I like the car. Going turbo on an SC300 is not expensive considering that the info and parts are cheap and I just want 400ish at the wheels which is not asking a lot for the NA 2JZ motor.
2) Now...considering I love rotaries I'm also thinking about ditching my streetported 12a and going 13b turbo, put the A/C back, all interior and dump the rollcage, redoing the paint and fixing the rx7 with full suspension, new wheels and make it as a daily driver. Instead of ditching all that money into a lexus why not spend it on the FB and make it a 12s or 11s daily driver.
Don't really know what to do.. 1 or 2 what do you think?

Kinda apples and oranges there.
The Lexus will be a smooth, sweet, fast ride with lots of aftermarket support.
The turbo RX will be a more viceral and pure sportscar.(I own one)
Yes,both will be quick and for the most part, sleepers.I guess you have to ask yourself,"Which would I rather drive, not just own?"
Personally,I think the Lexus would be much more forgiving and comfy.Especially since the 2JZ is bulletproof and the car is pretty solid.
The RX would be easier to make fast and nimble since its lighter and more a sportscar to begin with. And it could be cheaper in the long run.

that's why I love this forum...great answers.
maybe I'll build both... I just don't want to get rid of the rx7 if you know what I mean. But the sc300 is too good of a deal to pass by, 5 speeds are harder to come now days and that would save me some $ and the car is in good shape enough so to make it into a sweet ride.

Personally, the only reason I can think of for owning a boinger is because it's in a distinctive car. I'm moving the other direction in time from you. The cars I'm considering that would cause me to displace one of my FBs are: 1967 Cosmo, 1956 Speedster, 1967 Sunbeam Tiger, 1938 Buick Zephyr. I'm still weeping because I missed that 67 Cosmo (only $25k!) a few months ago: by one day!

it would be very very nice to have a badass toyota soarer, Twin turbos and all. I vote for the lexus and the TT2j/6spd swap, it would be a nice luxurious beast.

go with the sc300 with the 2JZ. Thats exactly what i want for my next car. Itll be a fast car that is super comfortable on the inside, you cant beat it. But, in the end, its your choice do whatever you want.

i dont believe you would do that..
Plus, I have driven several turbo GS300's, SC300's, and my favorite, IS300's.
All making over 400rwhp. One was making 624 rwhp on pump gas.
They are awsome cars, especially with the VVTI engine, you get smooth quiet
crusing, with plenty of WOT terror.
Sometimes it's not always about having the fastest car.
I personally would love to own one for a weekend cruiser for South Beach.
That being said, I wouldn't give up my seven for it. But I would like one too.

I'd say drive the 7 while you turbo the Lex. After the Lex is done, build up a nasty turbo 7.
And DF, the quality and workmanship of your car is what most of us strive for.

agreed, as long as you would keep the seven.. however if i had money to burn, i would buy a mercedes , S65 AMG model... add a chip and exhaust and you have 650+hp beast that is smoooth at 180mph!! until then, im stuck with my E class...and the 12a beast... wich should be running next week with the new setup...

I'd have to say get em both... why pass up a great offer on a good car? The question is why beef both them up if one is supposed to be a daily driver when you are going to get worse gas mileage that way? I'd say leave the comfy ride unturbo'd and turbo the 7 which is ment for preformance not comfort.
