I need a new radiator, do I need a 3 core.
My radiator is shot, so I need a new one.
I dont do alot of track driving, but I do a lot of street racing.
By next spring I will be running a streetported motor, with with one of the vented CF hoods one of the members is building,
Should I go 3 core or will the stock rad work,
the stock one is considerably cheaper for me because I work at a mazda dealer,
thanks

I put the MazdaTrix 3 core in mine and think it was a great investment. Of course mine is used mainly for AutoX and only occasionally driven around town. But even idling in grid for several minute after a run, it stays nice and cool.

All stock radiators for first gen are 2 core!! The end tanks on the 79-82 are capapble of being streched over a radiator core the has 3-rows. By design the 84-85 (including the SE) can not be stretch over a three row core. That is why Mazdatrix only sells a 3-core for the 79-82. IMPO the larger surface area of the 84-85 has a greater cooling capacity than the three core, and is therefor the better option/upgrade.

i might be out of the loop or something, but aren't you running a Cosmo 13B engine or something? or do you have another Rx-7 that you need a radiator for?
i'm asking because i think i read somewhere that the stock radiators are good only up to the 175-200 HP range, and i'm assuming that your motor is pushing more than that. just don't want to see you cook it - that's all.
http://www.mazdatrix.com/b8.htm
our radiators are at the bottom of the Gen II list - don't ask me
on a side note, my brother adapated a Gen II radiator to his 83 GSL, but i honestly, don't know the mounting details. i can tell you that it looked a little ghetto, but i don't see any reason why you couldn't clean up the install with a little time. i'm telling you this because i was wondering if maybe you'd want to consider running a T2 radiator.

I have a black magic (2800cfm) fan, Water Wetter, and the correct 75%/25% mix of the orange coolant and green coolant. No water at all in the system.
I was asking because I either want to get mine cleaned out and re-cored (to be safe), get a new one altogether, or look into an upgraded (bolt-on) one.
Again, Thanks for the Link, I felt stupid.

On the same subject..
Does anybody have any experience with Radiators.com
They list my radiator for only $119.00 and it is supposedly the stock replacement. I just don't feel comfortable that when I select1985 RX-7,
I only get the 1.3L (fuel injected 13B) option,
(what about 12A people?) and that they list
this picture as a 1985 Mazda RX-7.
My guess is they may just sell the upgraded GSL-SE Radiator to everyone with a First Gen.
So - does anybody know anything about them?
Thanks.

Why doesn't mine look like that?
By the way... I find my radiator to work great, and I have a '79 with an '80 rad in it. Hot days (102+ farenheit, 40+ celsius) are nothing for my stock clutch fan to keep the engine cool... Maybe I'm just lucky?

i may stand corrected, but i don't think the radiators were different between 12A and 13B for the 84-85 cars. i think there is just a difference in the upper hose because the water pumps were different. i don't know where to confirm or dispel this, but i think they are the same.

They are both the same part number.
HOWEVER, it definately shows the GSL-SE one to be different because it mounts on top of the oil cooler, the other does not.

See Page 53 for the GSL-SE Cooling system.
See the radiators and Oil Cooler mounting.
