i need help guys!!rx7 wont start
i have a 1981 rx7 that has the following problem:
the car has gas getting to the carb but, i am only getting spark from one of the coils . the coil that is providing the spark is the trailing coil.the leading coil is not producing a spark.i checked the leading coil by replacing it with a extra working coil and the result was the same.no spark. what can i check next.. i know that the problem is before the coil, the problem is what other device is in line with the wiring that goes to the leading coil.i have tools, i just need to be guided in the right direction.any help is well apreciated .. thanks..

if its not getting fire to the coil then maybe the igniter on the distributor, there are two on the distributor's exterior, j109's i think and if they go bad then nothing gets any further then the distributor.

i just called autozone and they gave me a price of 149.99 for the ignitors..tell me that they are full of ****.
i was thinking that the ignitors might be bad but i have never replaced them on my car in the last 7 years that i've owned the car.

Did you swap the ignitors to find that the tach did not work? If so the ignitor is the problem.
I had the same problem and honestly didn't realize it for about 6 months.... (this was before I decided to be a mechanic lol) Your best bet is to get a used one, because the new ones are priced stupidily high... Or if you have a junk yard nearby, you never know it may have a couple spares...
