This was with the Firepower welder i bought from NAPA. If i remember right it was $350.

werent using a sheilding gas then chances it was a flux core wire wich would leave slag all over the place during the process like you were describeing.

It was a TIG. I had the new guy at work do it.

So, was it the labor that was cheap or the tig ? :lol2:

i wish i had a real use for a tig i mostly just do little odd jobs for my own stuff so i cant really justify dropping that much on a tig at the momment. hers a couple of pics of welds from 2 years ago all i could find as im in the middle of moving to a new house and have all my other stuff packed up at the momment.

oh ya these were done on a millermatic 140 at this point in the pics id only been welding for about 4 or 5 days so my newer welds are much better. these welds passed a weld test just fine though it they may not look all fancy but they got it done.

All it cost me was a batch of home made chocolate chip cookies:bigthumb:.

After doing some research on 110V welders on the weldingweb forum, I've decided on the Lincoln 3200HD. It's supposed to be a pretty bad little booger. I'll even be able to dab in a little bit of aluminum work.

It's $458 at Home Depot but I've found a 10% off coupon from www.slickdeals.net so that seams like a pretty good deal.

The only thing I'll need is a tank w/gas. Anyone know the best place to pick a tank up ? I don't want anything huge.

the best way to get a tank is go through a local welding shop they normally wont fill a tank that isnt theirs

What size do you think I should get ? I don't want anything silly big but enough to last awhile.

75/25 is what you want. Argon/co2 IIRC.

You can either use 75/25 (also known as weldmix 8) or straight CO2. I like the 75/25. It does a better job of shielding and leaves a cleaner weld. CO2 is good to use on underpowered machines, it seems to burn in more. Also Eric, it is very important to make sure you weld in an area that has no draft or wind. It will reak havoc on your welds.

Oh and last time i checked 75/25 only came in the large bottles.

i can get the tiny, medium large or freaking huge thers no way im lifting this bottle in all co, all argon or a 75/25

i have what looks like a 20lb bottle myself, lasts a while, i think i spent 125 for it at my local welding shop for the bottle and first fill, my fill's have ranged from 35 to 60 depending on the place i go

random side story, the place i went to that sold me a damn bottle for 60 gave me a damn bottle of oxygen, like for an oxy cutting tourch the first time the bastards.. good thing the fittings are diff otherwise that could have made a mess, i never noticed the sticker on the bottle till i got back to work :(

I apologies, i should have said I couldn't get a small bottle where i live. Shop around Eric, i rent my bottles from a welding supply. They don't charge for the bottle just to have it filled. We were getting CO2 with a dip tube from them for $20 and i think it was like $35 for weldmix. I wouldn't buy a bottle.

i could rent a bottle, but its $15 a month or something, adds up quick

great thing is, my bottle isnt really filled, i just exhange it for one the same size thats filled

down side is i didnt know that right away, and decorated my first bottle rotary style.. they were less than pleased

I found someone local who has an extra bottle that's he's lending me. He said it's a little larger than a nitrous bottle. He said that he's able to do five 10 point cages with it. So, that should last me long enough. He said it will cost $40 to exchange locally.

I originally wanted to run non-intercooled with pump/methanol injection but I haven't been able to find anyone who's ran this combo succesfully with big numbers.

So, I think a intercooler might just be needed :(
