I did the dumbest thing...
Or maybe not...
I JUST BOUGHT A 1984 MAZDA RX7 GS!!! Woohooo!!!
Thank you everyone for all your advice... you have no idea how stoked I am! I'm so stoked I think something HORRIBLE is going to happen to me now, it's all too good to be true. I've been a rotary fan for like 5 years now, and this was literally my DREAM CAR that I didn't think I was ever going to buy! I can barely drive it as it is becuase it's stick and I'm still learning! Heck, I just have my permit!! I'm crazy, I tell you, crazy! I'm even crazier for buying it for 3250 HOWEVER all the records were there and the guy put something like $3000 into the car replacing OH so much. The engine looked new (though it was shaky)... the only place I found rust was in the inner exhaust pipe... no leaks or anything! It's SO COOL!!! I love it! It's beige!!
I will post pictures once I have the time. I have a midterm tomorrow and work all day, so I'll probably post them on friday sometime!!
Woohoo!

I finally got an RX-4 running yesterday evening, after having worked on it for two months, and drove it for the first time. Everything went well... as expected. Congrats on getting a 1st gen. There is no cure for the rotary bug, except V8, but who wants to drink that?

Good choice of car! The RX-7 is one of the most attractive cars on the road: clean and well-integrated lines, looks good from all angles. Good performance, especially on winding roads, like in the Santa Cruz mountains or across the Bay on Mt. Tam. The engine is novel, light, smooth running and will last a long time with a little care and attention. The rest of the running gear is quite plain and reflects the reliability of many years of standard auto development. Repairs are quite cheap, usually easy, and there are many sources for parts and rebuilds. Plus, this BBS is the best car forum you'll ever find!
Two items of everyday care: do not let the engine overheat. Overheating is the rotaries deadly enemy: it simply can't take extended periods of overheating. Overheating may not ruin the engine, but it will deteriorate internal water seals and reqiure either a rebuild or the Famous Temporary Internal water Seal Fix, which many of us have employed successfully. For preventative maintenance you should replace the radiator and heater hoses every 50,000 miles. In fact, since you don't know all the engines history, you should check the 5/8" heater hose that passes under the "beehive" oil cooler right now. If it is spongy replace it. Yoou can get the factory OEM part from www.mazdatrix.com for about $30, or look for a similar replacement hose at Kragens (you have to go behind the counter) or you can even fish a cheap 5/8" hose on if you have patience and ingenuity: I've done it.
Second, it pays to add a little 2-cycle oil to your gas tank before filling up. Most folks use about 1/2 to 1 oz. per gallon: I just add 8-10 oz. per tank. Rotaries share lubrication problems with 2-cycles, and that 2-cycle oil is a very good lube: withstands high temps good and burns clean. Some people also use Marvel Mystery oil the same way.
If you have problems come here first. We know the car and we know the guys in the area who can help you. Also, check the West region on this BBS.

Thanks all. I'm really stoked. I was feeling a bit of buyer's remorse today (I didn't think I deserved the car), but then after realizing I saved up for a year to buy one of these bi*chez, and after my friends convinced me I did deserve it, I got more stoked!
Yeah, I know... I'm going to take pictures tomorrow. I tried to take pictures right now, but my GOOD camera's flash isn't working! My other camera's flash sucks, so the pictures arn't very good unless taken in the daytime. I'm also REALLY tired right now and need to go to bed. But expect pictures at around 1-2 PM... OH MAN!
This car so so awesome! It's so classy!
