Angry I can't beleive it, she's gone. I'm in shock!

It was pouring rain tonight, the speed limit was 35 and I was going 20, I remember looking at the speedo, complaining that I shouldnt be going this slow and how I was being tailgated by another car... I went around a long turn, off the gas and it happened... She spun out and there was nothing I could do about it, nothing, clutch in, tried to steer out of it, I hydroplaned... I went down an embankment, and hit a tree head on tonight. There is nothing left to her, nothing. I cant beleive this happened, I'm in total shock. She's gone. Its like I lost a large part of myself tonight. I will say that the people behind me were very wonderful, ran down the embankment to see if I was ok, and the officer was the same way, completly understanding of what happended. I cant beleive I have to go car shopping tommorow. Its gone, I dont know if I even beleive it yet. I gotta go try and sleep, but its not going to happen, I loved this car, loved it to death... I'm at a loss...

I can't believe it either. That sucks gas man! Are you ok? Aside from that part of you which hit that tree? Are you going to be able to buy it back from the insurance? I offer my condolences.

geez and I thought I had a bad night. I'm sorry to hear about that man. Thats happened to me a few times but I always got lucky and ended up back on the road and no traffic.
Well if it makes you feel any better your not alone in your pain. I lost an apex seal in my front rotor tonight. 75k miles. Amazing isn't it. Did you have an SE?

Same thing happened to me and my beloved '79 Limited Edition. It was a first rain so I was being extra careful like you. Going about 50mph on the Frwy center lane. Car in front of me just barely driften in my lane so I did a little nudge to give room. Next thing I knew I was going backward 50 mph bouncing againt the concrete medium.

Complete total.

This 7 was totally perfect with about every suspension upgrade, a street ported 13B built by Nick personally at Rotary Reliability, etc etc.

Right now I'm transplanting as much as possible into a '85 SE I'm restoring. But it just isn't the same.

I totally feel your pain, dude.

Thanks everyone...... I dont want it back from the insurance company, I dont even want to go see it to sign over the title and pick up my plate. I still cant grasp the fact that its not in my driveway. There's nothing there really for parts other than a header and muffler. I had just gotten new door panels too, they matched the car perfect. The car is a complete and total loss, Its amazing. I didnt look at the engine yet, but there was a fuel leak and oil all over the place... From a 20 mph accident this all happend... Physically I'm fine, not so good otherwise... I dont know if everyone can grasp how much I loved this car. Holy ****...

Unhappy

My condolances on your loss. You never realize how much you love a car until it's gone. She loved you too, enough to see that you weren't hurt or worse...

Take some time to collect your thoughts and get the shock of the wreck out of your system, then decide what you want to do. I'm sure things will work out in some way.

People will tell you that you'll get another 7 and it'll be all better. I know it won't be the same for you. We're all here for ya man. Keep us posted on what's goin on and such.

Moment of silence for CraigG's Black 7.

Sucks bro.
Wish people at the board had the money to bring back cars like that. Sure was nice and clean. The soul wasn't a total loss, just the mass. Hopefully, you'll build/obtain another.

I may never own an RX-7 again, but in my heart, no matter what I drive, even if its faster, handles better, anything... I will always love my 7 a little bit more... it has given me more good times than I could ever forget, and was an absolute gem to me... It will always have a good chunk of my heart in it... I love that car, but life dosent agree with love sometimes, as the same things that made that car fun, made it dangerous last night in the pouring rain. Over the rest of my life I will forget many things, move on, but I will never forget my little rotary powered gem. How every morning going out and getting in that car, turning the ignition, pulling the choke and pumping the gas before I turned her over and let her warm up a little... I would sit in it and just be happy, the car was joy. It made the fact that I had to go to work that day ok, becuase the ride there was fun, and it made the day ok, because I knew I would be able to get back into it and cruise home, knowing that every now and then, people would look at me and smile. They would see a car that dared to be different. Look georgous and have this weird little engine that had spinning triangles in it. "Hey is that a Porshe?" People would ask every now and then, no its a Mazda. "Mazda makes cars like that?" Yes they do, and this one is mine... I love it, and although I am getting in all respects a better car now because of newer technology and it dosent leak like an **** ***** like my car did, it wont be the same, i will like my new car, but I wont love it... It was my first love and no other love can be the same way...

Sorry to hear it, Craig. The only times I've ever really messed one up, it's been due to my own stupidity. Here you were doing everything right. You have my most sincere condolences

{head bowed} I am in mourning for your loss. Let me speak from the experience not of totaling my cars, but being young and stupid enough to have to sell them for lack of money to maintain insurance and car payments.

My current 7 is my fourth (all 1st gens), and each time I get a new one, I say "it will never replace the last one". History repeating itself has proved me wrong. Each new 7 I buy has it's own special qualities.

For example, my first one was an '85 S. It had hail damage, and a crunched rear quarter on the unit body that was too far gone to repair. Hey, it was a repo that I bought from Beneficial. I beat that thing all to hell, got my late-teen jollies out on it, and still managed to trade it in on my next 7, an '84 GSL.

That car was immaculate. 60K miles, never smoked in, and a gray interior that was not like new, but NEW! Had to sell it because I was unemployed, and very stupid. I have regretted it ever since.

My third 7 was a '85 GSL, which I paid WAY too much for (karma for the steal I got on the first two?) because I needed my fix. I looked locally for about a month, and decided that this was "THE CAR". After stripping the car down to bare metal, and painting it a Cadillac metallic cherry red (very nice, but very expensive to do!), I found my current ride, and had to sell... AGAIN! Too many cars, including my wife's.

You will find the car you want some day. Things have a way of working out like that. You think you had the best, and then something even better floats your way when you're not expecting it. I wish you luck on the next vehicular love of your life, and hope that this tragedy doesn't make you gun shy on devoting yourself to it.

With sympathy,

I'm not really going to be parting it out, as I'm sure it would be cost prohibitive to pay the lot and towing as there isnt much to part to part out...

I feel your pain, brother. I've been there, and it wasn't even my car. Not legally, at least, but it was still my car in my heart.
I remember the day I got that horrible message like it was yesterday. The guy who drove 12 hours to buy my widebody and ported '79 called my mom half hour after driving away with his new 7 to tell her he had lost control of the car and was on the side of the road stranded. Even before my mom told me I could already see the terror in her eyes. When I heard the news I felt like I was punched in the stomach with a baseball bat. I was shaking too hard to drive, so my brother took me to the scene of the tragedy. There lied my RX-7 on the side of the road, its new Pacific front end smashed to bits, one of its rear 15x10 wheels seriously bent, its dashboard sticking halfway out telling me it had frame damage, its headlights popped half open like a dead corpse... I fell onto my knees, looked up and threw my fists into the sky and yelled at God at the top of my lungs demanding an explanation for this carnage right before I blacked out.
Yes, it was tragic. The fact that I already had the money didn't help ease the pain. I felt no sympathy for the new owner who just lost all his money because that car's soul belonged to me. All the money in the world could not have bought her spirit, just her material flesh.
A few weeks later, her spirit reincarnated in the form of a fully customized GSL-SE turbo and all was well again

Wow, I feel for you too Craig. I remember how I felt when my 1st gen got stolen. Thought I'd never see her again. As fate would have it, I got her back 6 mos later. She may be gone, but the memories will never fade. Good luck to you, glad your ok (physically anyway).
