I Am Fucked
got the rebuilt carb today; put it on, got everything setup in order and all seeming well. try to start it over with the battery getting juice from another car. NOTHING. try some mmo down the carb, NOTHING. cleaned spark plugs, NOTHING. starter fluid, NOTHING. checked for spark, fuel, etc. SOOOOO, we get it out on the street (pushed) and then get a car behind it. i leave it in second gear while the car is pushing me over 20mph. i have done this before and it has always worked. tonight???? NOTHING. it makes NO SENSE. the carb was just rebuilt. only thing i have not checked, because i can't, is the timing. but could it be THAT ******* OFF????? before i took the carb off for rebuilding (2 months ago) it cranked fine, just ran like trash. the motor only has 50,000 miles on it since it's rebuild. WTF help me please. i'm on the verge of selling what i treat like my child.

does it turn over? if it's turning over, sounds like vacum leakage. or if it's not check stuff like fuses, wires for bad spots where they could ground out. it all else fails check the stupid not obvious things. it's probably somethign stupid man.

could be timing......
i saw its ignition related some how..... the starting fluid wont help for compression... poor some atfdown the carb... then some gas...... spin it by hand... if ya go spark, pull the ******.....
ps... it wont start by push starting it unless you got some juice in the battery already.. if its dry your waisting your time..........................

Okay... DON'T ATF THE DAMN THING....
If it ran "ok" before, you don't need to atf it...
Now that's been said:
You said you checked that fuel was getting to the carb, how much fuel? a trickle? are you sure?
Is it getting to the engine? pull the plugs, are they flooded?
Is the starter actually turning the engine? Is it turning it fast enough?
It's possible that it was severely flooded by the time you pull-started it. Take out the spark plugs. First, dry them off and check all four for proper spark again. With the plugs out turn the main pulley away from you (on top). This will use the rotor's edge to scoop any MMO CRAP you have down in there, and any extra gas, and shove it out the bottom holes. Dry off the plugs, put them back in. If you're getting fuel and you're getting spark, and the engine's being turned fast enough, you're set. Using a *little* starting fluid or gas in the carb (and I do mean little) try starting it again.
On my car at least, the fuel pump is wired to the starter's circuit for the "car on" signal... For some cars it's not like that, but I know at least for an '84GS it is. You might want to check that wiring if you're not getting enough fuel.
And one last thing: has the car been sitting? bad fuel is hard to start on.

Did you set your mixture, idle and jet screws to where they have to be? Choke? Sometimes when they rebuild a carb they don't set anything for you. Also check the plugs like Vipernicus42 stated above and see if it's flooding.

I know this may sound ridiculous, but did you put the rotor back under the dizzy cap? I've done that... took me forever to figure it out, too.
Check to make sure the right wires are going to the right plugs.

ok guys; i found out what the hell is happening. it keeps cranking over and then dieing out. so i looked in the carb right after it died and i noticed that there was SOOO much fuel! it is severely kicking out fuel! WHY???? we set the floats to 9/16th like everyone says to on here. what could be wrong?

well i have all the linkage that's left hooked together. no matter what though, i dont think it should shoot out this much fuel. i mean, it's really rediculous. it almost flows over the top of the carb!!!! lol i think i'm about to pull it off and take it back to the place that rebuilt it. he says it sounds like the floats are sticking. i've hit the top with a hammer and that no help. *sigh*

well, i tried that solenoid stuff. no change either way. i was able to keep it running a for a few minutes by turning my fuel pump on and off LOL. i'm about to pull the carb off and take it back to the guy. we're gonna pull the top off and see if the damn floats are sticking or something.

you don't need to pull it off to see if the floats are sticking!! look in the windows!! there is one on the front and one in the back. the fuel level should be right in the middle. if you think they are sticking, unscrew the window, use a flat blade screw driver and LIGHTLY lift up the floats with it and check to see if they are sticking. If so, spray some carby cleaner in there and let it sit a while. then a few hours later, try it again.

What fuel pump are you using? You may be over pressurizing the carb and causing the flooding.
You using a regulator? Still have the return line on? Any idea what your fuel pressure is?

holy crap, i pulled the front window off and i do believe that the float is sunk! its hard to tell but i can see metal and not the black pastic of the float. i poked at it and i'm pretty sure it's sunk. WHAT THE F$%&????

i think i'm gonna have to tear in to it. damnit. i checked the floats on my old carb just now. they dont sit that low at all. fuuuuuuuuug! i'll let you know what happens.
