How often do you WOT to redline...?
#3
I do it maybe once every time I drive it, but I only go to about 6k and only drive it about 2x a week. I don't want to go any higher because I got some bad oil seals and don't want to blow anything up, but I heard it's good to rev it up once every time you drive it because it cleans some of the carbon off the rotors or something. Anyway, thats my excuse.

At least 3-4 times or more each drive.
BUT....not when the engine is cold.
Never past 7500-8000RPMs (rarely,usually shift @ 7000 or so.)
Its good to do regularly, helps to keep everything clean and happy in the engine.Exceed 8000 and you risk e-shaft flex, apex seal chatter and other damage, especially on engines with heavier rotors.Rotaries love to rev high, within their design limits.

After my oil temps have stabilized warm, I do it everytime I get into 2nd gear and the chance allows. I live in Los Angeles, where it's almost impossible to be the only car on the road though.
When it gets boring at home, I go for a drive as well. I drive very often.. and go through a tank (16gal) in about 3-4 days. I just make sure to change my oil often, and I premix a bit with the OMP still functional. My engine doesn't feel any less powerful, nor does ti show any sign of burning more oil.
Driving on the street is nowhere as demanding as being on a track, where you're probably never under 4000rpm for roughly 20 mins at a time.

I don't usually go past 6000, but I usually do it once or twice every other time I drive, depending on what kind of mood I'm in . Unless you've got a GSL-SE the oil pump is too crappy to do the job all the way to redline.

If I'm in a "spirited driving" kinda mood and the lane is clear, I'll shift at the beep from first to third. ONLY when the engine is warm, and I *always* shift before it hits 7k.
That amounts to about three or four times a week. I don't expect any loss of life with my engine, but I'm rebuilding it in a year anyway, so we'll see.

This is my daily driver, and I work about 40 miles from home. Pretty much evertime I'm passing through 2nd gear I'll take it to the red (traffic allowing). A lot of the drive is through the countryside too, so then you can add 3rd gear to the mix. I'd say that probably 10% of my shifts overall occur at the redline. You've gotta love that!

i'm not sure if its just the holley, 6-port or what, but my power really drops off around 6000rpm. so essentially that is my redline and i do that practically every 1st, 2nd shift when im wanting to have some fun

I have never hit the "BUZZER" as far as i am concerned the "BUZZER" is a warning which means you are doing something wrong. So many people dont realize that the avarage 100k
rotary engine has spun around about 50 million times or so. (based on a 3500 rpm average)
I would like to see an engineer subject some other mechanical device to harsh use after 20 years and 50 million cycles.....
I am sure all of the youngsters who think the wankel is indestructable will flame me ..... The "when i pull up to a ricer" comments prove that.
I am also sure that some of the other adults and "purists" will agree. 6000 rpms is just fine for spitited driving.
Im done!

i take it to 7k almost every shift every time i drive her. I'm in the process of removing the rust and finding safer seats, so i don't driver her often, only put ~700 miles on her this past year. planning an engine swap in the future when funds allow it, so taking it to redline or higher is a priority, just to put a smile on my face.

I'm 42 and run it to redline once the engine is fully warmed up almost every time I'm in 2nd gear, it does help clean out the engine and the drivers head....gotta love 70's technology still pulling 7000 rpm daily, oh and I drive at least 1000 miles a week in mine.
Only down side definately uses more fuel when revved.

The buzzer doesnt tell you that your doing something wrong. The rotaries factory intended redline is 7000RPM.....8000RPM on S5 N/A cars, and thats with the longer 13B.A short, stout 12A will run perfectly fine at redline.
The reason the buzzer exists is because rotaries dont sound like their revving at 7000RPMS.This is partly because at redline, the rotors are only spinning 2300RPM.Theres also no valvetrain noise and very little vibration to acentuate the fact that your working near the engine's rev limit.

What is it with everyone redlining in 2nd to 3rd?
Either way, I've only redlined a few times, but I don't trust my engine to last much longer so thats probably the reason. But my favorite time to go WOT and get way up in the RPMs is from 3rd to 4th, start about 3.5k and just hammer it, fun as hell.

After changing the spark plugs i pretty much was able to run it up to the red line through all the gears (except for 5th) pushed about 108mph although my friend driving next to me going the same speed claimed we were going 120, so i have no clue how trustworthy my speedo is. Time to bust out the GPS.
-as far as WOT, pretty much atleast once when i drive, usually shift at 6000rpm because of the drop off of power after. I'll go into the red just so the buzzer will scare the crap out of my passenger.

I am glad that you all continue to beat on your cars. Eventually there will be very few stock original FB's left and that will drive the price up....
Thank you all. I will save mine for then.
