I got mine for free from my mum. God knows what she payed for it. We're second owners of the car, the first owners being an elderly couple that bought it new and only drove it to church. The car picked up alot of dirt and grit in the 10-odd years we've owned it, and picked up alot of siezure in the 4-odd years it's sat in that one spot in the driveway doing nothing. By the time it's on the road (late this summer or early next spring) I will have put about 3g of work into her including full Brake System (minus drums, master cyl and booster), Springs, Shocks, Sway Bars, Gas Tank Repair, Filters, Wires, Lines, Hoses.......

I found my '85 GSL for $400.00 cdn and spent $8.50 getting it running. I put a new rad $300.00 cdn and a used water pump $8.00 in it. Other then the tires it ran great for 2 years. I just did one of the wheel bearings and a seal this week.
Not to bad I would say.

Paid $12000 for my new 83GS in 83: 116k and still running and looking good!
Paid $1700 for the 85GSL last year. Running and looking good at 55k (really!), and getting new clutch right now.
Paid $0 for the red 83 I got last week. Guy gave it to me because it looked so awful and he couldn't pass smog and he couldn't tune it right because the timing mark disappeared. Also, the trans bearing howls.
I cleaned up the body, punched out dents, straightened, Bondoed, and now it looks great! Almost ready for new paint. Found the timing marks and daubed them and re-timed the engine. Now it should pass smog, or at least I'll have a good reason why not, rather than general despair. Then I'll cleanup the interior (repair/replace seats) find a good used trans, and sell the car (or keep it if I can convince my wife).
Another one saved from the crusher!

$9200, SA not an FB. Bought it new in 80. Still have it, twenty three years later. Just restored it.
$550 for my first GSL-SE, $600 for my second. First one was perfect, but the mechanic told the girl who owned it the engine was blown. It just needed new battery cables.

Purchased New
1985 GSL-SE Purchased July 1985 for USA$14,000; sticker price was $16,XXX.
The day I purchased it, the Mazda service manager came out to my car to tell me not to even read the "breaking in" section of the manual. He said it was best to "run the hell out of it". The car still runs great.

After taxes, I ended up paying about $575 for my 82 GSL in May 2002. She had just shy of 78K on the clock, and bent needle valve seals. The owner of the lot said he'd have been asking $1300 if it was running right. He thought it was a bad fuel pump, but was too lazy to investigate.
Since then I've sunk probably less than $400 into her, and she's running pretty damn well at just over 91K on the clock now.
