Transmissions with some sort of return from a junkyard are around $150 - $450 depending on the yard. I have picked up a couple that people want to get rid of for free to $50 when I have felt the need.

Mmm bought an excellent condition parts car for $150. Which is about oh 20cents for the axel. You should try to find a relatively cheap parts car. If cheap enough overall it will save you alot of money on your rebuild.
