Ha, same thing happened to my car!
$120 for new battery and no problems fixed.

As a side note: there is an easy way to check your battery if you have an aftermarket stereo, try to turn it on! If your battery is toast it wont work.

That might be accurate if your battery has no juice left in it. It is not accurate for 99% of the other cases. A weak battery that does not have enough voltage left(minimum of 9.6 to the starter when cranking) will still power the stereo, the lights and other low amperage accessories.

Alot of times you can watch the voltage guage. If when attempting to crank the guage drops way down then the battery is either discharged or defective. An exception to that would be if the starter was drawing too much amperage or the engine was seized.

Sorry if that last post was misleading.
Just describing what happened to me and I didn't know it was that unique of a situation. :uh:

Voltage guage - Ha, that's never worked, But probably because I have a SA with a newer 12a swapped in it. But that's probably only like 1% of RX7 owners as well. :lol2:

he might have an electrical drain. he has an aftermarket stereo afterall. if he has his amp wired wrong it would be on all the time. if it was me id check for a drain. disconnect your neg batt terminal and put a testlight inline. meaning the alligator clip on the post and the light on the clamp. if the light comes on with the key off and the doors closed and no accesories on.......ta daaaa you have a drain.

1983GSP 10-25-07 02:25 AM

to find the drain, start pulling fuses one by one until the light goes out. the first thing id disconnect would be the main stereo amp fuse. just my 2 cents

Yeah, I figure it'd be something draining my battery as well... I will find that out as I take off the battery, starter to get them tested. =D

tigermack 10-29-07 03:47 PM

Took the battery and starter out to get it tested. They are BAD... will be getting a new starter and new battery to let you guys know what's up. I think the battery died cause I cranked it without having it jumped from another car. Not quite sure how the starter went bad though... but we didn't hear anything from it after we did the FC coil.

Alright guys, I got an update for you and a few questions...

I got the new battery in, new starter, car starts up no problem! I also changed in new NGK plugs. Retuned the carb a little because it wasn't running smoothly in the higher RPM range. I richen it up... but I was reading a thread that Sterling posted in... he mentioned that the idle mixture should be lean? I have it rich... that's the only way the car would run good/well. Is that ok? I also did the FC coil upgrade, credits to my bro who did it for me.

Kentetsu 11-07-07 06:47 PM

The idle mixture will not affect anything over idle. Higher rpms cannot be richened by adjusting the idle mixture. Unless you have a monster port job on the motor, the stock Nikki carb should be fine for your car. Might want to check your timing... and maybe your fuel filter.

tigermack 11-07-07 08:38 PM

I don't have a monster port job, however, my intake manifold is ported. How come I feel a huge difference when I richen the idle mixture if it doesn't work? I changed my fuel filter. I guess I should be taking a look at the timing... hmm

He does not have a stock Nikki carb, he has a Yaw carb (which is similar to the sterling).

Kentetsu 11-08-07 05:08 AM

Won't matter if it is Yaw or Sterling. Idle functions are still the same. Thanks for pointing that out though, I missed that...
