How do I take the carpet out?

I have already taken the carpet out of my 81 and cleaned it, but I can't get the carpet out of my 84. All I am having trouble with is the carpet under the dash, the center console is in the way. Do I need to remove the dash, and how do I do that? Wouldn't I have to remove the whole dash since it's one piece. I can't really find any screws that hold it on.
I am trying to get this done as fast as possible and it turned out to be a lot harder than I expected.

I believe the heater core is bolted to the floor or something there... there's a bunch of bolts you have to un-do to get the carpet out. I'm lazy, so all I've ever done is gotten a really sharp exacto knife back behind the dash, and cut a slit into the piece that goes under the dash. Then all you do to re-install it is tuck it back in there, use a bit of double sided tape to stick it down, and it looks factory again, as the cut is hidden by the dash anyways.

when I took mine out I just slit it down the middle.. The place where I cut it cant be seen, made it easier than pulling the entire dash and all out, which is what you will have to do since the dash's metal substruture it bolted around the carpet

Get a utility knife and cut it tight to wherever you cant pull it out....and when you go to replace it , tuck it under your cuts...youll never be able to tell it was fucked with

I am a pro at removing carpet from 83's, but I am glad I stumbled on this, because my current project/daily driver is an '85. I'm going to be taking this short 'cut'
