how do I get to the rear axle seal?
I have never worked on drum brakes before, and I started to today. I need to change a seal, and I can't figure it out. I got a chiltons manual, but its a p.o.s. as far as I can tell, its not specific at all.... There is a hub type of thing that seems to be attached to the axle, and I imagine I need to get inbehind that but I am not sure how, and the manual doesn't specify this.... any1 know about what I am talking about? Thanks.

the axel seal is held on by a pressed on retaining sleve. the sleve has to be cut and broken into 2 parts then u can press off the seal and bearing. i bent a axel the 1st time i tryed to get the bearing off. most shops charge about 15$ to remove install the parts from the axel.

No sure what he is doing.
I remove all the drum brake parts, backing plate and the four bolts that fasten it to the axle. You pull the axle shaft out, sometimes a slide hammer puller is needed, i just tap the axle shaft out with a rubber mallet. Once the axle shaft is out, remove the seal from the axle housing with a screw driver to pop it out.
