I had a 91 civc hatch that was stripped and all that was inside was a cage - it weighd 1800 pounds FULLY RACE STRIPPED. your civic pals should pull their heads out and smell what wankel is cooking, kick their asses in a race around a curvy road- when their flashy lunchboxes roll over on the first turn and your RX grips like a bitch and keeps rolling, they'll know the RX-7 is more "fast and furious" than their mom's grocery getter ever could be.

if these civics are so light, and have the same horse power as a 12a, why arent they fast?
Add that to the fact the they are FWD, RX-7's are rear wheel drive (and often have a LSD). So if you can't absolutely rape them off the line, you have need of practice...
Old civics are very lightly built, so their chassis aren't very strong. But combine with a torque-challenged engine, and you will never have a problem. CRX's are light as a feather, which is why they are most often the drag car platform-of-choice for serious drag-hondas.

I think all the people you are talking to that claim their civics weigh 1700 lbs. are either just talking smack, or are completely clueless. Or perhaps its the vinal stickers, they add 5 Hp at least, and lower the weight of the car by 50 lbs...

I personally dont ever do that to someone, but i dont konw, just me i guess.
I knew they didnt know what they were talking about. THe thing that i was thinking was, if these civics are so light, and have the same horse power as a 12a, why arent they fast? Why cant we make our rexes that light? but, as i suspected, they arent as light as they pretend to be.
Once again, a ricer pretends to be fast, or light in this case.

You are comparing 2 completely diffrent cars,
2 completely diffrent set ups, diffrent engines etc..
of course one will weight more than the other.I dont think Civics weigh in what you posted...a CRX would be close but not a Civic..
Maybe im just looking at yoru question at a diffrent view than you or maybe I didnt catch something,Sorry...

Depends on the year, options, etc!
But there are many things to figure.
A Civic engine weighs much less than a rotary engine. FAR less.
Same goes for the transmission.

Exactly. I agree 100%. I mean, a 12a/13b weighs like what, 400lbs? Average hamsters only weigh 7-9 ozs.

I've heard that the rotary is roughly equivalent to a pist-on engine twice it's size. Why is that?

Through a stroke of genius, Wankel convinced the world that a Wankel rotary's displacement should only be rated by the displacement over one flywheel revolution.
Genius because standard engines (4-cycle boingers) are rated by the displacement over two flywheel revolutions. Because of this, Herr Wankel's engines were twice as large as a similarly rated piston engine. This meant that cars with his engines could have engines twice as large as the competition's while falling into the same tax bracket! The Ro80 had "1 liter" engine, so it was taxed like a 1 liter car, but it performed like a 2 liter car.
The governments wised up and now they rate rotaries by either 2x or 1.8x rated displacement. The "one revolution" rating serves no real purpose anymore other than giving ricers something to brag about

Yeah, don't ever forget that Civics have gutless little 1.6's in them, while a 12A is equivalent to a 2.3l. Rotor motor much more biggerful!
HP sells but torque talks!
