If I am replacing reactor with header what else gets replaced, obviously the little cat like thing, but does the header go directly to the connecting pipe or the cats or what?

Is the reactor the cover?

I fail to know the dif between the reactor and the manifold itself. Is it the same thing?

The "reactor" is the exhaust manifold. I dont know why they call it that. This manifold/reactor also has a heat cover which has a hose going to the carb. Hope that clears things up a bit

Yes, exhaust is very extensively discussed here.

Without getting into too much detail for fear of thread derailment, it basically comes down to the fact that rotary exhaust gases are very hot and forceful compared to that of piston engines. There are a few brands that are known to cope well with this, and these are what are usually recommended.

And actually, thermal reactors are different from the later-style exhaust manifolds. '79-80 used the thermal reactor instead of a catalytic converter for emissions cleanup.

Oh really? I thought they were all the same (being cast iron brick style) to keep the heat in and as you said emissions and whatnot, i didnt realize they were different. Maybe time to start another thread pocket lol

Yeh

I guess I have a lot of reading to do.

My car does have the brick looking manifold and cover and it is giving me headaches. Today it caught on fire for about two seconds.

I will place this in my old post about burning oil and see if I get some hits there.

Thanks

Very well done!!!

However, I am gonna have to do some searching to find a thread for exhaust. Why is everyone only recommend RB or Borla? What happens with Flowmaster and other brands out there? Am I missing something? Is it not the right flow for the rotary?

Many questions come to mind and I don't want to start a new discussion on a thread that was intended for the FAN SET up

Thanks though.

I thout it was a simple thing but obviously the exhaust is another one of those well beaten topics.

juan
Thanks

Flowmasters and most aftermarket exhausts run great on the rotary engine. Flow is great, but longevity is not.

I try to keep it the best I can related. Like others have said, I do not want to threadjack. Long story short; RB, Borla, Magnaflow can all hold up to the rotaries exhaust temp for long periods of time. All others use an "inferior" muffler filler which can not take the temps of the rotary. The set up I have now (all borla) Has withstood MANY fireballs out the exhaust.

I go to local meets, and whenever I drive hard, fireballs. Highway cruising? After a while, let off the gas and foom fooooom fireballs. Still sounds great (although toned more than when it first got it on) and holds up well. I gotta upload pictures of my "presilencer" to show how it holds to the heat.

If you are still curious, look up Stueck12a on youtube. More videos there
