Hot Coil?, everythings was good, then..

Ok, had a great day of racing on Sunday. On the way home, just as I think to myself "my car worked flawlessly," then it died. If I let it sit for a minute or two it will run for about 15 minutes, then it dies again...damn.

I think it my be the coil. I have just gone with a direct fire system with an MSD powering a stock 2nd gen coil. The coil has been taken off the alum mount (and stripped of the igniter) and mounted on the inner fender well. Looks very clean, but I am thinking that it just does not have enough of a heat sink with all the power from the MSD.

So, what do you think?

Do you know for a fact that the coil is getting hot? How's your fuel filter?

When it happened I did not feel the coil. I can drive it until that happnes again and then check it. I will also swap out the fuel filter.

Hopefully your filter just got clogged... Let us know if the new one helps.

Buy an MSD and look in the archives to find out how to wire it. Simple!

There are no 'kits', it's all DIY. Nate, from some of the questions I've seen you post lately, I get the idea you haven't read the FAQs or the archives. When you get some spare time, do some reading just for fun. You might be suprised what you can learn. I didn't learn everything I know about 7s from hands on experience only. I have spent many hours/days/weeks reading on a number of different rotary forums. With that knowledge base in my head, it has made the hands on work many times easier.
