Holy Cow...the Confusion.

I have a friend who is selling me a perfect parts car 83 gsl front end is a little banged up everything else is mint. He is telling me it is a power windows car, but I have an 84 gsl with manual windows. Unless the PO converted my car to manual...that is all I can think of. Did GSL come with LSD..or only the GSLSE came with it? Would the pinion flange mate to my driveshaft? Thanks.

PS--- I searched..and my computer insists on freezing tonight and I needed a quick answer.

Ray, your GSL has been converted to manual windows. Gsl has a LSD. On the 83 models there was a split in years, early models had a small flange, later had large ones.

If the flange was wrong, would swapping driveshafts correct the problem, or would the slip-yoke note fit the output shaft? And why the HELL would the damn PO switch my car to manual windows. What a moron.

I'll have to check the title n make sure its a GSL and not just badged. However, I highly doubt its been rebadged.

Here is the deal if your car has a sunroof it could be turned into a GSL everything else were add on type options you could not order them that way but all you have to do is buy the parts and do it. I have seen many GSLs converted to manual windows because the power window regulators wore out and the owners did not have the bucks to fork over to mazda for new ones then the salvage yards gouged you on the price of a used one that was not much better than your original one.

Yes, that's all you would have to do is swap driveshafts.

The power windows in our cars can be a pain in the *** on our cars at times. The problem is that the rubbers need to be cleaned and lubed to keep everything moving smoothly. But most people don't know this or if they do they don't do it.
So, what winds up happening is not only does the windows start going up and down slowly but people compensate for them by helping them up. At that point the windows start pinching the seals then they get off track,yada,yada,......

So what he was saying is if I have a sunroof I have a GSL. Don't quite know why I am doubting it but my title is at my other house and I am really anxious to know now. Besides jacking up the rear and checking for LSD, how can I tell? I decoded the VIN to no avail. Any details that couldn't be changed on the vehicle which will verify it is the GSL? Thanks all.

Duh guys..the diff. has a LSD unit, the vehicle has 4-disk brakes. Just need to confirm GSL.

With the lsd and the 4 wheel discs, it sure sounds like a gsl. If it walks like a duck, and talks like a duck, then dammit just call the thing a duck already!

GSLs also have the rear window wiper. If the diff is an lsd unit, it should have a sticker on the backside of it stating the need for the lsd additive. Keep in mind some lsd units were changed out to peglegs due to chatter/wheel hop complaints from orignial owmers and not all lsd units pass the usual jack up the rear end, turn one wheel and see which way the other one turns.

If the tranny is in good condition, swap it too. autocross/road racers like that year due to the different gear ratios.

Well, I found a GSL in the for sale section and his hatch is just like mine. Scott you said they come with rear wiper, but was it common for people to remove them? My hatch looks like this guys..with two extra plugs circled in red. I assume this is where the wiper motor was mounted?

Ray, those holes are for the wiper motor. First time I've seen one plugged like that.

LC model? Not familiar with that one Doc.

What do you mean? I think you're misunderstanding. I have one LSD and it is in my car. When are you going to take a fifteen minute drive and let me check out your car and vise versa?
