Angry Holley Bogging worse than ever!

ok, im trying to figure out i did wrong here. i removed the float bowls to spray compressed air in behind the metering plate, but i couldnt find a clutch-head type screwdriver and just sprayed around on the secondary side.

once i had it back together and running i adjusted the idle screws it was idling better, took it out for a test run and here comes the trouble. my secondaries are totally blowing goats. i have them mechanical via the "screw trick" and soon as they start to open the car bogs insanely. its like the engine almost stops for a second.

i adjusted the timing, moved the screw around a bit on the secondary linkage and still no go. so now im running without secondaries at all.

soon as i can track down the proper screw driver to get the metering plate off i intend to try again cleaning it out. but can anyone clue in as to what i messed up?

far as im concerned it should be working just like before since the float levels, timing and etc were all exactly where they were when i took it for the test drive.

Is this setup new to you? I had the same problem with my 650 Holley Vacuum Secondary.

I had to jet the accellerator pump up significantly and change the accellerator pump cam profile to a more agressive one.

To let the secondaries open on their own, I had to get a 1" open spacer and change the diaphram spring to the lightest one.

i bought this carb used, its RB prepped. it was working just fine before today, so i dont think any manjor adjustments are needed. however, i may have to adjust some jetting since its always lacked power up high, 6500rpm+

before i only had bogging problems during low speed right hand turns when i hit the gas too quickly. now its all the time.

how did you go about altering the accel. pump cam profile? i'm not even sure what you mean by that.

o'well. i finally managed to get a hold of the clutch-head screw driver i needed to remove the metering plate and cleaned that up, car idles and runs great now. no more bog!
