Yeah, it sounds like abusted tranny to me.

But look at it as an opportunity to learn about your car. It won't take that long to do it and like I said before, you should be able to find one for $100-$150.

Can you give me a clue as to where I can locate a used transmission? Which one should I get, maybe the newer one is better or something? Any tips and tricks?

The very best place to find one is www.thepartstrader.com If you post an add saying what your looking for you will get several responses.

You can use any 1st gen RX-7 tranny from 79-85. they all have the same gears except 84/5 gsl-se tranny has a taller 5th gear. It will be a little better for top end but you will never notice the difference.

Wow, surprisingly enough I found a part within 2 days, $200 shipped to my door, with a waranty.

I am going to go ahead and post another topic about doing the swap itself.

Thank you for helping!!! I want to get my rx-7 running already!
