Hey ya'll, what to do with the Mound???
Hey friends,
Here's the bottom line, the Mound has been denied the love I once had for years ago. She is currently in need of:
Suspension (poly, eibach, illuminas, RB sway) $800
Exhasut (RB either single or dual complete) $650
Paint (brown, of course) $2500
Misc body parts, emblems, seals, trim, etc $750
And a whole lotta love...(ie time)
For a total of somewhere around $4700, which as we all know could easily fetch a really nice low mileage GSL-SE (Mound II). I have a lot of love for the Mound, even though it's 'poo brown' I like the color. The interior great with the exception of the hatch which is severely faded. Stereo good but needs subs. Engine still seems strong but needs tuning.
So, what would you do, given the little information I have supplied you with, your knowledge of the car, and the emotions you have towards your own?
Right on.

Good point there. If I found a really low mileage one, I might keep it stock, but then I wouldn't want to drive it daily. So yeah i might add the header and the suspension. So I guess I'm saving about 3500. Hmm....so maybe it's a wash. Of couse it would be a lower mileage car. Mound has about 150k.

it's gotta have SOME sentimental value to you, doesn't it? I'd personally keep it and fix it up, that way you'll be doing her a favour, and keeping her alive...

i was thinking about the same thing for my baby. . but the problem that i kept comming into is that everything that i want to do to this one, i would want to do to any first gen that i own.. so i donot think that it is really safe to look at it from a monetary stand point.

Keep yours and fix her up. You don't have to do it all at once. At least you know her quirks and her history.

I think I was just looking for affirmation from my rotary Brotherhood! Amen!
yeah I think I will keep it...it will be much more rewarding to rebuild it back up then to get a "newer one"....

I'd normally recommend the SE, but since you'll end up putting the exhaust and swaybars on it you may as well save the cost of the chassis and just throw the parts onto your current mound.

I'm leaning on continuing to gather cash for my poor 7... If anyone's interested, I think there's a Silver 1985 SE in the area for sale...
Oh yeah... A short section of tube was removed from it. It led from the upper intake, the rectangle part that says "EGI" on it, to the plastic tube before the throttle body... For the purposes of spraying starting fluid maybe?
Maybe this car could be a deal! The won't start kinda deal that can be dealt with by a small bottle...

my $.02,
I bought my 1st rx in 1987(84 GSL......hence 1st7heaven) and sold it in 1995. I owned several others in between and missed it soooooo much! In 2000 I seeked the old car out and found it in Houston and went down and bought it back!!!..........Back in the saddle again!
KEEP THE CAR, YOU WILL REGRET SELLING IT!!!!!!

Definately keep it. I couldn't think about even selling my other POS even if its rusting out, ect, ect. I would regret it and than accidentally buy even bigger POS. So just keep the mound. Make her good again!

My '84 GS is dark poo brown - wasn't crazy about it at first, but "it has grown on me". Now I like the fact that its different then most other 1st gens on the road. I say keep it and fix it up.

Almost didn't buy my 84 GSL with 86K km 3 years ago cuz it was poo brown (still no corn for mirrors though LMFAO), my kids hated it, wifey said "nice" in that special tone of hers. Family has mellowed to the point where they only like Havana on a Rex, and though I always wanted an SE in black, T5 has grown on me so much that a pristine Mound would be my dream car. Imagine...Mound envy!
