Here's a question for you guys...

The preferred 13b is obviously a 4 port the 6 port 13b's SP won't make much more than a 12A SP. I personally If i had the money would buy a pre 86 13b for the simple fact that everything is interchangeble (besides e-shaft and things like that). if you get a 84-85 13b those can easily be made into 4 port, with 12A irons. Hope this gives you some direction.

read through that. What some people will do is port them then use epoxy to seal the water jackets, for the 6 ports. The 4 ports are just basically more "porting friendly"

The 6 port was introduced to improve fuel economy not power. It is more difficult to port than the earlier 4 port engines. I have no direct knowledge but a recollection that Pineapple Racing offered something for 6 port engines. It is also getting difficult to get a good 4 port. However, with a large streetport and a 48IDA then some 220+hp is practical.
The 13B always gave some 10% more than the equivalent 12A, however over time both were depowered by Mazda to meet pollution and fuel consumption targets. The 13B was the only stock efi NA 1 Gen so a straight comparison is difficult. Hitman did a mild ported efi 12A which gave some 220hp with good fuel economy, but the conversation cost was high.
For the power you want, 12A intercooler big turbo or 13B streetported big carby are viable options, but a first step would be a rebuild for reliability. Some tuners will not seriously modify without replacing the rotors or housings.

Just a suggestion on motor of choice for the power output your looking for. I'd look into a S5 N/A motor with the higher 9.7 compression rotors. But instead of using the 6port plates I would use turboII 4port plates. Get a streetport done or if you don't mind the exhaust note I'd go with a small bridge that doesn't compromise the water seals. With your choice of carb but my personal preference is holley 4 barrel 600cfm carb. Guaranteed you will like the power output of this setup. I did a similar setup in a friends 1971 Datsun 1200 with a S5 streetport 6port motor and his car ran consistent 13.5s in the 1/4 on street tires and spinning through 3rd gear. And he has been driving this car daily for over 3years now with no problems.
