You're going to fiberglass it, right? Why not just build a frame, and wrap it with fleece or whatever. Put it back in to ensure a nice fit, then start glassing away?

I like the 'snake board' idea, but curious how it's going to work on the finalized box? I envision you fiberglassing over it at some point, but don't see how it's going to hold it's shape when pulled out to be glassed. Perhaps I'm missing something though. Anyhow, keep up the good work man, I think it's safe to say your enthusiasm to take up these projects is refreshing. Gives me ideas for stuff to do to my 1st gen.
As I sit here, I've got a few projects of my own going on. Holley 600 DP rebuild, GM HEI Ignitor powered DLIDFIS to name a few. Keep on keepin' on man!

Ah, that clears it up for me.
Damn bro, you have a *LOT* on your plate. I'm semi working on a deadline, as I'm getting tempted to take my FB to the Tulsa,OK Rotary BBQ in 3 weeks. Though, if I don't meet the deadline, the FD can make the trip. So far there's like 17 FDs and 4 FBs... so I think I wanna help out the FB crowd.

Ouch, thats rough. I've driven my 7 9 hrs to Road America and 7 Hours to VIR. 6 Hrs to Summit Point, and 20mins to Mid-Ohio, there is no way I could stand that long going to the track without a nice stereo. I don't have a trailer to take my car to the track, I drive it. So where is it so wrong?

So I removed the holder for the jack, and decided to go with two smaller 10s. Here's the progress thus far today.
Here's where the final mounting is going to be:
This is a view from the top of the hatch, so you can see how far they don't stick out.
Here's my #1 assistant:
Have some Snake Board:
Here's Assistant #2:
Here's more Snake Board in place, being checked by the Quality Control Lab (note the remnants of my first, failed attempt on the left side):
And here's the subs sitting in it, just to give an idea how it's coming.
Now that it's glued into place, I can trace out the remaining patterns on some 1/4" MDF, transfer them to the 3/4", and get the last of it in place, then comes the fiberglass.

Since it is removable. It looks like i can still have my spare in there. It will just be more work to get to the spare since i have to remove the sub box first. Am I correct?

I did custom installs for a living, and I must say, you've got some good ideas, and it looks like it's coming along great. That being said, you could have save a lot of time by just building the entire box from fiberglas. Not only is it easier, but you tend to get a little more airspace, because you can form it around the parts of the car. If you do it right, it would be everybit as solid (if not more so) than a MDF/Fiberglass hybrid. Generally when I do it, I use MDF for the front plate (The part the sub mounts to) and glas the rest of it. I will post pics of my car when it stops raingn, and I can go take some. Don't take my post worng, I'm not critisizing your work. Like I said, it looks good!
