here we go again

Well my work truck is in the shop so I have time to play with the 7. The problem is a strange starting issue. First off its real cold here if you pull the choke out forget it it wont start. To start it you crank it a little then pump the gas and then sometimes it starts up. If doesnt start you do it all over again.Once it starts you can pull the choke out it will idle up like it should and rpm will drop when it warms and choke turns off like it should. The things I have tried new plugs new cap and rotor button checked for vacuum leaks and found none. The p o put in new coils they are msd blaster 2 coils What I noticed if you pull off the coil wire the one near the front has no spark coming out only makes a buzzing sound the other one jumps plenty of spark.I tried search cant really find anything about leading and trailing coil which one is which this haynes manual lacks a little.Could these be affecting the starting. Thanks

To be quite honest I think its a normal thing, with carburators unless you want to tune it differently for just cold weather because the air is more dense it requires more fuel. when I was carburated, I used to pump it twice before cranking it to get it going.

I agree we have to pump the other ones but then we pull on the choke and it starts and runs. If you do it to this one it want start you have to getting running first without use of the choke. Thanks

For some reason the 12A 1/2-sp 1/2-bp in the widebody loves this cold weather. It's been starting easier at 10-15* than it did last summer, go figure.

When I was using my points ign in my SA I used to drop a cap full of MMO down the carb at the end of the night. I have a 12A SP with Direct Fire and all I do is pump the gas once and then fire her up.

The other 2 I have are a pain in the but to start when cold to. This one is just flat strange how it acts. The p o put this on craigs list posted all about the stuff he had to go with it but never said it ran. I went to get it to put a 12a from a wrecked one I have but when i got there he started it. He did some crazy stuff new coils new rb header stereo with big amp but he had all kinds of stuff rigged. Kinda like putting the cart before the horse.I have running real good thanks to help on this board . Just need to figure this out because if dont it start 1st or 2nd time it kinda floods and I end up running the battery down.So I cant drive and leave it sit long or it may not start.

I suspect that one of your ignitor modules is bad. If you don't have both leading and trailing ignition firing it would make it hard to start.

Test the spark plugs for spark. If the trailing plugs have no spark, then the trailing igniter is bad and same with the leading plugs.
