Help! Very confused about a custom exhaust!

Hello! I have a 12a /w Holley stock port in a MG Midget. Its my daily driver. Two issues

1) my lungs hurt from a leak from a flex joint
2) its getting louder and louder! I'd like a near stock quiet car.

Current setup:
custom header (2-1 style by very very short, 9 inches)-> 2" of pipe (yes, 2 inches) -> flex joint -> 4' of pipe -> unknown glass pack -> 8" of pipe -> round magma flow muffler (4"x13" about)

The silencer is near the rear of the car for space reasons.

So I want to replace it all except to keep the header. I'm very confused about all the options out there what will last on a 12a. I plan I'll get some RB 2" thick-wall pipe but not sure what to do about the pre-silencer and muffler. I dont care much about performance, just want something quiet. Unfortunately RB only sells a universal pre-silencer in 3" and a muffler in 2.5". 3" silencer to a 2" pipe seems like a big jump.

Ideas please! Thank you.

Borla XR-1. Run 2 ovals, the longer the better. Or 1 oval as a pre-silencer in 2" and RB's universal muffler in the back. If you really don't care about performance and want it quiet, go back to the stock exhaust manifold.

Well, I guess I do care about performance but its just not high on priorities but cant run stock header, no way it'd fit in a MG Midget

I dont see the XR-1 in 2" but I do in 2.5". I assume it's the sportmans you are talking about?

Maybe 2" pipe to two XR-1 'sportman's (16" x 4 1/2" x 7 7/8") both serving as the silencer and muffler. Little expensive but you say they are good quality? I'll look into it. Thank you!

Borla is pricier but well worth the extra compared to say Magnaflow. You might want to read through the following thread. It has some speculation that 2.25-2.5" exhaust systems tend to be quieter than the 2.0". Iirc, 2.25" heavy wall pipe should just fit inside 2.5" mufflers.

What do I want? XR-1® Multi-core Racing Mufflers or XR-1® Sportsman Racing Mufflers?

Multi-core. Check eBay, no sense in paying Borla's list price.

Listen to Trochoid.....but if you're looking for alternatives, here's what I have.
Mindtrain Header (You've got to stick with what you've got I know) into a 2" x 24" Magnaflow as a presilincer and then into a Racing Beat PowerPulse muffler all 2" pipe.
My setup added plenty of power with a nice low rumble at idle, when you get on it, it's got a nice growl, but it's definitely NOT too loud....I think some on this forum might think it's not load enough, but I like it!

Just my $0.02

Been reading about Borla's XR-1 on the net. Just about all positive for many makes of cars.

At over 200$ each, I think two XR-1s are too rich for my blood But I've decided I can afford one. I'll keep the 2" pipe, but buy a 2.5" ID XR-1® Multi-core 14"x6.25". Wanted oval but that required 3". Then I got a racing beat universal muffler 2.5"

Thanks for the help. I'll post a clip when its all back together. Gota keep the 12a love going
