Help! Need idea of fair asking price

I could really use everyones input on helping me fairly price a low milage clean first generation.

I want to really push this when the weather breaks. I want to price the car realisticly, but I have no urge to give it away.

Here are the details. 1983 GS. Red. one owner. 11,000 miles. Car could not be any cleaner. Graphic equalizer, Sun roof, security system. Never in rain, paint sparkles! Engine exceptionally clean, interior still actual smells new. Down side, the car is an Automatic.

OK guys, please help. realistic price range????

11,000 miles on an 83? What's the story behind that!? Personally I'd go about $4000, but that's my own uninformed opinion about how much to pay for that kind of car that's almost 20 years old. I could see it going for more...have to know more history about it. Don't take me for an expert though...

id say 4000 but only someone looking for a pristine example would pay.
some of us, rather pay dirt cheap and spend more fixing it, than just spending the money for one in really good shape.

4k sounds reasonable. I've seen one go for more but it looked like it just came off the showroom floor. Not a spec of rust, paint was flawless, high options, about the same mileage, just about perfect. I think it went for just under 5k.

ok, I'm gonna get in on this one.11,000 miles...whooooo...yeah, I 'd like to hear that story too. You proably have the lowest mileage rx7 in the country. Can you doucument it??If so, this is a BIG plus for you . It is proably going to need brakes and all the oils changed cause "sitting" really does the car no good. NOw, a GS is not the top model and this will hurt you regarding price. BUt if it is as sweet as you say, 4000.00 might be pushing it but it would not stop me from asking that kind a price. the only reason for 4000.00 is because of the mileage and condition....and everything should work 100%. Does it have air? No air will also hurt you. I assume it has no power windows, sunroof and all the other upgrade options....If it were my car, I'd take 4000.00 if I could get it....Good luck.....cjf

Yes, but some people actually want an automatic - for instance, people who live in cities that have big traffic jams every day! .. also, people who like the looks of the first-gen but don't know how to shift.

But what's the story on the mileage? Has the car been serviced on a regular basis (based on the passage of time) over the years? If so, then $5k might be top dollar, but it may take many months to get that - you could ask that price (in the newspaper) for a couple of weeks to gauge the market - and then change the price if necessary and put an ad (with picture) in the local "auto trader" also.

BTW, this isn't the place to get top dollar..

im thinking more along the lines of $5,000 or higher.
if that is true 11,000 miles then that should be considered as a collecter.
only if it is as pristine as you say.
wouldnt take anything less then 5

I'll try to answer all the questions that have been raised.

The story. My wife bought this car new before we were married. She is the original owner, so documenting the milage is no problem. We are both car nuts and met due to this. I had two cars, and she had two cars when we met, so this car, her fun car, basicly sat and rarely got driven. The car, while stored, has been started regularly and driven a few miles occasionally. The only thing that is not original is the oil. We have since always had at least 4 cars and up to 7 cars at a time. You can probably see why I married her! It is even cleaner than the pictures posted. Absolutely showroom. I can E mail picture if anyone wants to see it. I have had difficulty posting them.

The car does have Air. I forgot to list that.

I will not sell the car if I am only offered $3,000 to $4,000. As I said in my original post, I will not give it away. At that price point, I will either save it for my son, or drive it to work. I really do appreciate all the input.

Its in great shape, but only gonna be what someone will pay for it. Id pay 4,000 for one like that, but its probally worth only what someone will pay for it..

five grand tops. Maybe you can get more from a collector but I am thinking 5 grand.

if that is not enough price it at what you want for it and put it up for sale. If you sell it great! If not, oh well.

just my $.02

I happen to think the car is worth more than $4k, but that's all I'd pay for it too. Sadly, the car is just *old* right now. In another 10 years or so it'll be quite the collector's item. Personally, I'd keep it for myself. If you really want to get rid of it, put it in one of those auto-trader magazines that run the ad until it sells. Eventually somebody will want it bad enough to pay top dollar...especially as 7's get rarer and rarer.

Thanks for all the input so far. Sounds like the general input is $4,000 for a relatively quick sale, $5,000 with some patience, and $ 6,000 with the right allignment of the stars and the "right person at the right time". Anyone think higher is possible? I would sell it for $5,000. Not lower. Think about it this way...A absolutety "like new" sports car for 5G's. Not many cars you can buy for that amount that are not either junk or slow boxes.

As Genrex indicated earlier, people on this board are kind of cheap. We like working on our cars more than paying for them . As long as you're not in a hurry, I don't see why you can't get $5000 for it. $6000 is possible, but at that point you have to start competing with new cars like Kia's and autos coming off of lease. I'd find a well-off suburn and push it as a graduation gift. Kids like sports cars, but it's not too scary of one to discourage parents. Again though...just my uninformed opinion.

If it has absolutely NO rust anywhere, that is on the wheel wells and the exhaust isn't falling off, then $3500. If it was given loads of TLC and owned by a knowlegable driver, then $4000. I personally wouldn't spend that much, but I'm cheap

I agree Genrex, some people like and want the automatic, but I "think" most do not. Does the car have leather?? All the goodies add value, being the low end model, just not that desirable as a collector in my opinion. It is like Mustangs ( and I collect them) , coupes are just not going to be the collectable value as say the fastback or convertible. v6 -vs-v8 effects value, even color effects value...so , there are many factors other than just "low mileage" which is a big plus for sure but asking a big price may not get you anywhere. But,,,all you need is the right person. only takes one person...and "red" is a seller too..Good luck!!!!
