Help! Need exhaust system straightened out

I have a 1980 RX-7 I bought recently. Prior owner put on a RB Header. It's connected to a catalytic converter that was emptied out. I have a replacement cat. converter that VictoriaBritish has in their catalog but it does not fit to the RB Header.

Can anyone tell me what is the normal equipment needed when using an RB Header? I need an emission friendly system. I'm stuck at what I need to purchase from front to back?
Current system is loud (even with new muffler) and car backfires & has poor performance. I'd like to get exhaust system straightened out.

The 1980 RX7s didn't have a catalytic converter, but used a thermal reactor and a heat exchanger. The Racing Bleat header specific for 1980 application has a flange which bolts up to the stock heat exchanger, or a mini presilencer can be substituted for the heat exchanger. If you want to pass emissions you may have to reinstall the thermal reactor. (Yuck!) -WG

Maybe that's a heat exchanger I'm seeing and not a catalytic converter?? Not sure what I need to do to fix the exhaust problem. Should I purchase one of the mini presilencers? Also, all I know is that an RB header was put on, are they all the same?

Does Pennsylvainia have a visual inspection that goes along with the emmissions testing?

PA has currently suspended emissions testing. When they were testing, I believe they just used a machine for testing to see if a car passes or fails and didn't care about visual.

What rear muffler is on the car that makes it too loud? That setup should be fairly quiet if the stock muffler is used. The mini presilencer will definitely help, though.

A brand new muffler from VictoriaBritish, the Monza Exhaust System muffler, is on the car.

I don't have any direct experience with that particular muffler, but have read a few posts on this forum saying they are okay, but don't last. Do you have access to a stock muffler you could bolt on to compare? I'm just wondering if that Monza muffler might be louder than the stock unit. I'm probably going to be installing a Racing Bleat header on my '80 and bolting it up to the stock heat exchanger and muffler until I can get a mini-presilencer to replace the heat exchanger. Pretty much like what you've got except for the Monza muffler. I'm hoping it won't be loud. -WG

I don't know anything about the RacingBeat Header on my car, such as where purchased, what model,etc....are they all the same and can I assume I can order a presilencer and it will fit? I also have a brand new stainless steel muffler that I didn't use because it wouldn't fit connecting to the stock pipe. I'm going to probably sell that.
