Help! I am stuck installing cd headunit

I am outside right now, trying to take out the console, but it won't come out.

I have unscrewed the 2 bolts above the AC controls. I have unscrewed 2 middle bolts hidden behind the ash tray and I have unscrewed the bolts by the shifter. It is loose - but not coming out?

Is there a bolt hiding under the driver side trim piece or the passenger side? Or do I need to pull harder? Feels like if I pull any harder it will break - dont want that.

THANKS IN ADVANCE!

btw 1983 5SPD GLS. TAPE/RADIO AND EQUALIZER

If you haven't gotten it already, the answer is no. There are two clips attached to the back of the vents that you need to pop loose remove the temp. and fan *****. Also I found that I was able to mount my single din in the same space my tape player occupied.

Guys,

I got the entire TAPE / EQUALIZER / JOYSTICK AUDIO CONTROL center console disassembled, however, there are strange wiring and plugs and sockets sprawled out there, and I am unable to figure out how to make the cd unit work.

I guestimated on which plug goes where, however the cd turns on, but no sound comes out.

Attached are the pictures of my dillema, can someone point out what goes where and what I need to do? I am REALLY confused at this point.

This has been covered about a billion times, maybe we can archive it at this point

The black / silver round cords are called DIN plugs they go to the factory amps in some models via the joystick fader thingy..

On some models you get lucky and are able to unplug a 4 pin plug and therefore get front sepakers. Im unsure on your model...

Get you a 9 volt battery and start touching
If you hold the 4 pin plug upright towards you, theres wire on top and one directly below it, relating left and right. Pop it with a 9v battery, if you hear a speaker guess what you just found a speaker Now when you do the wire on top closest the lock part will be positive...

The 3 pin plug will be Illumination 12V ign, and power ant (take note the power ant is negative trigger and not positive) you will need to wire a relay.

There should be a single pin plug in there somewhere thats 12V bat. You need a test light, but I throughly recommend a Digital Volt Meter (DVM)

The 3 pin plug in part of your harness adapter you will get lucky on, it will plug in and correspond to the wires you need Be sure to remember to ground the radio to the nearest bolt going into the metal sub dash.

To wire the relay...

85 goes to power ant wire on radio (blue/wht usually)
86 and 87 go to ground
and 30 goes to the car's power ant wire , found on the 3 pin plug.

And wait until you try to slide the DIN radio in there, you are gonna have to chop some of the metal on the sides, this isnt really a car to do if you dont know what your doing, but your in good hands..

Oh and definately get you some good connectors and a pair of crimpers... Or better yet solder those wires and black tape them up with 3M Super 33 black tape

Anything else ask

Yeah, I just called crutchfield. They said that I would need to run 8 wires from the amp OUTPUT, they said SPLICE them in.

This is the biggest pain in the ***.

HINT HINT: The white plug (front) and the Blue plug (Rear) will plug into the amp plugs

The amp are under the storage compartments in the back...

Okay guys, thanks for help. Here's a little update.

A) I got the CD player to work, along with the power antenna, radio and all that good stuff.

B) I had to run 4 new wires from the back to the head unit, which wasn't TOO BAD.

C) I was unable to hook up my cigarette adapter, for some reason, if it was hooked up, it would blow the RADIO fuse! So I left it disconnected. I couldn't figure out why as soon as the cig. adapter is hooked up, the fuse short circuits... Beyond me, and beyond my time limit.

D) Everything is properly wired, however, it is obvious that my 7 has major electrical issues, because when I step on the brakes, my cd player cuts out - then restarts once again, because the power drops when the brakes are applied (everything dims once some light comes on).

E) When the car is OFF, and I turn the cd player on, and than I turn the headlights ON, the entire electrical system just FREAKS OUT, the antenna keeps going up and down while the cd player just blinks ON / off / on/ off and etc. So I need to turn the car on, than headlights, and then the cd player. Basically, seems like there's not enough power going thru the car.

Perhaps my alternator is dead?

ps. i have a brand new battery.

Could I just use a sledge?

C - Check inside the lighter or the cig lighter itself. I bet inside its grounding out to the positive.

The rest of your problems sound like a bad ground, or improper wiring.
