What area of the test did it fail? That's what I was trying to type!

Do they offer a preliminary type inspection? So you could at lest get a baseline, before you start chucking money around?

Zal, if I where you, over the winter I would look everywhere for a mechanic that will pass your car without testing it. Ontario emission laws are pretty strict... they'll look at your car and if they think it wont pass, they wont test it. They'll ask you to spend 200 on getting it fixed. After you bring them the bill, they'll check it and if it fails, i beleive you are told to spend more $. If it fails the 3rd time... game over.

Do you still have the cats? I've got some at my place and you could "borrow" the manifold/cat assembly to pass the test if you need it, but I'll need it back cause I'm up to bat later next year...

Too bad your car is an 85... that means you have to pass the testing next year and again in 2 years from now. But, after that you're free to do what you want!
