Help Door Wont Open!!!

Ok So I just went through a big ordeal playing musical batteries in my fb's. Only have one good battery between them. Gettin read to take one to the exhuast shop. I goto open my drivers door. Nothing. Its like its locked but my key wont unlock or lock it. I can still go in through the passengers side, but is there a way to unlock the door without having to use the key. I saw in one thread there was a way but it was pmed. I need to get the door open so I can tear the panel off and see what the problem is. Oh and the window wont roll down more than half way, its like its stuck om something. EDIT oh yeah if I pull the lock thing up on the inside it does nothing.

I had the same thing happen to my 85 GS but on the passenger door. I can still only open it from the inside but that's just because I haven't ordered a new handle. There is a small piece that broke off the handle (inside the door) which then dropped the bar attached to the door latch. The bar got in the way of all other functioning parts and I couldn't get the door open at all. I had to remove the inside panel while the door was closed. It's really not that difficult if you move the seat around to get a screwdriver to the screws.

Good luck, btw, the window handle is held on by a single screw, there is no clip to worry about, just pop the middle cover off the handle. Hope this helps a little.

its might be the metal piece that opens the lock is actually off its place. not sure how you'll get it open though if it doesn't open up from both sides

So you're looking for an easy way to break into a 7, even though you can open the door from the inside??? (after opening the passenger door)

I figure If I can get to the mechanism inside the door I would be able to open it. Because the handles aren't working. ITs rainy here now too so Im gonna have to wait til it clears up befoe I start trying to take the door panel off from the inside without opening it grrr lol

If it is broke, swap the right handle with the left handle; the lever rod will hook into the handle "spare" hole that way. Although it's hard to explain, it works.

I figure that the inside and outside door handles don't work, and that's the problem. But he's not replying to my question.

Oh I missread your post. Yeah I cant even open the door from the inside. Thats the problem. If I could at least open it from the inside It would make working on it a bit easier, and I prolly wouldnt have made this thread. Im just looking for any easier way to go about this. I swear with this car if its not one thing its something else.

I had the same thing happen on my car last night. My outside door handle had broken but I could open it from the inside still and the window would only roll down halfway because the hanging loose mechanism from the outside handle was getting in the way. Then I opened and closed the door a couple of times from inside and something came loose in there because I can no longer open it from the inside.

I'm going to take the drivers side apart to see how I can get this opened but if someone is willing to share via PM a way to do this without tearing apart the other door I'd appreciate it.
