help with carb
okay,i recentley bought a 84 gsl se with a 12a,i was having probs setting the carb,now i was told it was a 600 holley i took the numbers called up holley,and so its a 390 cfm old carb for a pinto,really im not joking anyway,the car has a modded stock mani,headers straight pipe to a n1 style exhaust,holley red fuel pump fpr,the cars has no top whatsoever,the needle moves but the car really does not move to good on the top,i adjusted the air fuel screws on both sides to 3 turns,the fpr guage says 7 1/2 ,i want the car with the right carb and to be at full potiential.anyone,thanks

My advice. Sell the 390 and get a Sterling. www.sterlingmetalworks.com. Normally I wouldn't suggest replacing a part without tinkering first, but this is a special case. At the very least check out the site I posted. There is lots of good carb related info on there. Lots. Hours worth of reading.
If that isn't the way you want to go, then you'll need to start playing with the jetting. It sounds like you may not be getting enough fuel up top. At WOT it will just be trickling fuel in, leaning out the mixture and dropping power. Pull it apart and tell us what jets you are using. The Holley guys may be able to tell you if your sizes are in the right range or not.
