Help; electrical 1985gsl, alternator
have a 1985gsl with a stock 12a. my alternator went out, In the process of replacing it I reversed the polarity on my alternator. In other words I hooked the wires in the back of the alternator in backwards.
Now I have a new alternator in, but I need to know what I blew when I reversed the wires. Is there a fuze, or regulator I could have blown? the battery is brand new and gives correct voltage.
when the ignition is turned on, all dash light turn on and my radio, lights ect turn on, but as SOON as I turn the key to start EVERYTHING turns off. just a small click, no motor turn , nothing..... any help would be appreciated.

when everything turns off does it stay off? to get power again do you have to disconnect the battery or wait a few min?
I have had a similar problem on two occasions. This first time I had this problem the starter was toast, so when I turned the key it shorted the system.
The second was very simple, the terminals on the battery were ever so slightly loose so when you got the high current from the starter..... if you were to look at the battery closely while trying to start the car you would see sparks...
