theres a cable that is hooked up to the temp control. the cable could have came loose on the other end while it was on hot.
the tubing that brings the hot or cold air to the vents is parted out into 3 or 4 sections. it might be loose in one of the links, allowing the air to leak though.

Which it apparently does, because hes asking how to fix it, not why it does it...

My gsl does it.... only thing i do is set it to cold, and turn off the air, let the side vents draw the outside air in and hope its colder than inside my car. But if there is a way to fix this.... i want to know... it annoys me.

Sounds like the cable that operates the hot water inlet valve to the heater core is either disconnected, or the valve is stuck open (which is not uncommon).
On a sort of related note, my Ford Fiesta has NO heater valve, the hot water flows through the heater core 100% of the time. What a stupid design.

Put it on "defrost" and then your leg won't get hot.

Heh, there is no water valve on FB's either. The cable operates a door that lets air pass over the heater core. Stupid, just like the Festiva LOL.

It's a FIESTA, dammit!

So the FBs don't have a hot water inlet valve? Sorry for the misinformation, all my experience with RX7s is with my '80.

If..and only if the hot water is getting to the heater core and thecontrol is not stopping the water flow you have to stop it from happening to control the heat. The easy way to do that is to install a MINI BALL VALVE. you can then control water flow to heater core. Some of the old hot roders use mini wood clamps and pinch the hose. Small pair of vise grips also willwork as a test to see if you like the results. Culprit is flowing hot water. "Graingers" has the ball valves and nipples you will need for permanent installation...

Ha Ha, you dodged a bullet there, didn't you?
Go buy a lottery ticket.

Fiesta: Made in Germany for the US market, or Spain for the Euro models. Only sold in the US '78-'80.

Festiva: Made in Korea.

My Fiesta.

Festiva.
