headlights not retracting

headlights not retracting
i think i must just being missing something, when i am running my car and turn headlights on they popup however the only way i can get them down is to manual turn the **** am i missing a fuse or link? i do not know much about the car i just got it out of storage it was there since 1992, am waiting for carb to be finished but was trying to get all other things worked out so i can drive it as soon as i get the carb installed. any suggestions would be appreciated. thanks

check the middle fuseable link (if I'm naming the wrong one, one of my fellow rotorheads will correct me) on the driver's side strut tower for continuity. 9 times out of 10, headlights stuck in the up position are a result of this link blowing. If it pops a second time, trace the cause.
You can replace it with a 2nd gen style fuse instead of a fuseable link if you like. Looks cleaner.

The fuse links are labeled. The center is the main link, and the 2 on either side are marked as headlights and retractor. The retractor link is the one to check.
As mentioned, the later style fuse links can be easily installed in the stock box. Not only do they look cleaner, but the clear top makes it much easier to tell when one has blown, as it not be clear any longer....
