headlight reminder chime

i'm definatly not a noob here and i definatly have a lot of experience with the rx-7. however, off the top of my head, i cannot for the life of me, remember where the headlight reminder chime is located under that dash. so, if anyone has any insight, it would definatly be appreciated. oh, and yes i did a search and if mine worked, i'd definatly know where it was at

I can't help you with the location of the chime but if your car is a base model, it never had it.

Its on the back of the instrument cluster.

Possibly inside the instrument cluster, I can never remember.

i'm not too sure. i looked in my fsm and it didn't say anything about it. it did work at one time though.... i looked in my 84 rx-7 brochure and it did say that all trim levels of the 7 had the chime, not just the GS and above.

I believe that the actual chime is in the instrument cluster, but the CPU is what controls it. The buzzer in the CPU is for the seat belts. I am currently looking to fix this as well. None of my buzzers work with the exception of the over-rev buzzer. I picked up a CPU yesterday from the wrecking yard. We will see if that fixes the problem or not.

Good luck.

if its not working its due to the small CPU under the left hand side of the drivers side. i think its called the flasher box, the solders in these tend to mess up. i replaced mine with one from a junked Rx7 and everything related to it now works again. headlight buzzer, clock, dome lights, etc..

g'luck

edit: this thing.

I wonder if this relates to the problem I have with my 83GS? When I turn on the key the car starts and runs OK, but the gauges all register zero and there's a rattly noise like the chime coming from under the dash. Lights work, but not turn signals. Sound familiar?

what i did notice it doing this evening, was a constant clicking coming from the instrument cluster when the lights were on and the key was removed from the ignition. i think my problem is in the cluster.... any thoughts?

mine does the same thing. I'm pretty sure my "constant clicking" is the alarm trying to sound, since I can just barely hear it chime when I get under the dash.

does anyone have a pic of the chime itself on the cluster?

thanks,

Gary

Oh come on, somebody must have picture of this little rascal. My car also suffers fromt the click, click sound instead of the lights on warnning chime. I would love to fix this, but the wiring diagram will probably not get me there. Someone post a picture.

Thanks for the picture. Now I have find the little bugger, see if can get it out, and then see if I can get it to work. That will have to wait a while. But the picture will be a big help.
