Question headlight problem

when i turn on my lights my rpm goes down and dont no y andwhen turing them off it goes back up

how much does it change?
cause it does the same thing in my car. but just a tiny bit, figured it was normal

Sounds like you are putting a pretty good pull on your alt when you turn on your lights. Stock lamps?

as far as i know there the stock from what i saw when i took them off the 55w ones

Does your alternator charge well? Could be bad grounding. Do the headlight rewire project, it should help!

yeah i want to do that project with the wiring and thinking of getting that set up from that guy danial from canada that carries it. i will check my alternator too thanks guys anymore output is appreciated

Find the headlight relay installation thread. You might be able to upgrade and solve this issue all at the same time for just a few bucks... Sounds like you have a short somewhere though, installing the relays should eliminate all of the heavy load on the stock wiring. Good luck.

you can also add a few more ground wires to your alt., headlights, batt trust me bad grounds caz alot of problems..and it doesint hurt to have alot of gournds woot scrape the paint and ground it st8 to the body make a new hole self taping screw works really good dont ever use bolts or other factory grounds.... just make a new1 that way you know its a good ground

what size wire should i use when grounding and when adding more grounds i just attach them all in various places

if your going to add afew to the batt. i would use 4 gauge also if you are wanting to make a ground kit for your motor i would use 4 gauge for the lights and and thing like that i woudlint go any bigger than 10g 10 would be on the overkill side but it wouldint hurt anything i would use either 12g or 10g happy grounding

yeah but now im going to the battery what happened to the alternator if my lights r drawing power what would i be grounding would it be the battery to motor or what im just a tad confused here can u be just a tad briefer on this for my lights

Are you still running the air pump? If you have removed it, then you need a dual belt pulley for the alt. If the air pump is present, check belt tension, then look into getting your alt tested. Adding extra grounds is a bandaid instead of fixing the electrical system properly.

Another thought, do you have an aftermarket stereo system? If so, look into upgrading the alt. The stock one is only 50 amps.

you would make better grounds from the battery to the body....and than make a fwe good grounds from the motor to the body you could also run a ground wire from the alt case/body to the motor

but like Trochoid said this is not a FIX you should find out what the problem is but the grouds arnt going to hurt anything good grounds make every thing work better...

yeah the kid that had the car before me put a stereo in and the speakers that should be the back r a pepboys subwoofer n a black box that $30 boom box and some nice speakers upfront with some huge gauge wire going from from to back to the bo. I wil lcheck the alternator man this is more then helpful ty guys and i had been thinking about more grounds i just didnt no what gauge
