header question

a friend of mine ask me is the pacesetter header good or are piece of s#!t like the muffler. i don't know the answer that why i ask too. thanks

its a piece of ****. the inside of the collector has alllll kinds of excess metal in there. you could buzz it out with a die grinder, but it'd be a royal PITA. the paint burns off within 20 minutes of installation, yet the burnt paint smell lasts a lifetime. i installed mine last year and the smell is slowly growing faint, but jeez... if i would've known all this, i just would've gotten racing beat headers.

yeah. but will go all the way the cat. racing beat header won't go all the way to the cat.

the pace setter header is junk the tubes are too thin to put up with the heat of a rotary and will burn up in about two to three years but the R.B header will last longer than the car

they don't drill the holes right in the flanges, either.... have to spend a lot of time with a drill and a die grinder just making the holes large enough and in the right places, just so it'll bolt on.

i think the thin-wall metal should be durable enough, but a lot of noise escapes the tubing. when i first had mine on i thought i had an exhaust leak because you could hear the exhaust kinda loud near the engine, turns out it's just the sound travelling through the tubing.

Since the RB Header is not CA smog legal, any idea why, other than it does not have a CARB #? It seems like you could sneak it by as it shouldn't increase the smog levels. They don't lift the car for visuals, how would they even know?

it's very difficult to get approval for anything that alters the location of the catalytic converters. it's been done to put a RB header and a highflow cat on in place of the stock manifold/multitude of pre-cars/main cat setup, and it will pass smog provided you maintain the rat's nest and air pump...

I run a RB header w/ an O2 sensor, high flow cat, and RB catback on my GSL-SE. Still have the airpump and pass the smog test easily.

As far as a visual inspection, most of the dumbasses I encounter at the test stations still ask for the number of cylinders even when I tell them it's a rotary. The last guy had to set his RPM sensor on my roof to get a reading anywhere close to accurate!

i have '85 gsl-se RB header,custom pre-silencer,random tech hi-flo cat, and RB muffler.

last emission test :
HC ppm limit:141 reading: 67
CO % limit:0.79 reading: 0.09
NO ppm limit:1601 Reading: 227
RPM 2291
Dilution 12.8

just thought you'd like to see the results.

the paint burns off the RB header too, but installed 5/11/98 and still solid (even after 4 winters)

were are you guys getting your cat pipes? i am looking for something (for smog ofcourse) that will bolt straight up to the rb header and powerpulse muffler (the one that comes with the rb exhaust)..

eddierotary, get a mindtrain header it is well built like the racingbeat, and it reaches back to the cat like the pacesetter.

well i have the bonez cat on my rex. is a friend i have that got a rx7 about 3 weeks and he wanna know about those header. i know the muffler are piece of **** but i didnt know about the header but he gonna get now racing beat exaust. i already have a exaust for my car. thanks.

i originally had the RB Header, then 2 custom pre-silencers (made by the shop that installed the exhaust) and the RB muffler. when they started emission testing here a few years ago i got a Random Technology cat. the same guy that did the exhaust installed it. i don't think it bolted right up tho, it's been so long i'll have to take a look.
