Having a running issue with my 85 FB

Hi,
I have an 85 GS and the last month it has been running like crap. I have owned the car for two years and it has always started and run like it should. I rebuilt the carb in the summer of 2010, new fuel pump and filter, new plugs wires, rotor, cap. The starter went out on me in Sept after it was making whiney noises before the engine started up.

My friend and I replaced the starter and when I went to start it up it was not wanting to start. It coughed and chugged and sounded like it was sick. It idled and ran but started to stall out when taking it for a spin. I have not driven it since, except starting it up and letting the oil circulate. I also removed the OMP and run premix.

Could over premixing cause the carb to get gunked up? I removed the OMP this summer, and put about 16 ounces everytime I fill up. SOmetimes it works out to be more because I dont always fill up when it is on empty. I am just baffled at how the car was running good, then the starter went, and now it sounds sick like its not firing right. I would appreciate any input as it has been frustrating trying to figure this out.

possibly crap in the tank, check the fuel lines for something restricting flow. also vacuum leaks/improperly routed/missing lines all make a difference. the 1 oz. per gallon should be just fine, i premix a half oz. per gallon with an omp, and it runs fine. also check the igniters and see if youve got a bad trailing igniter.

Check spark, float levels, wiring connections, etc. Check for moisture under the dist. cap too.

If I let mine sit for a week or more is a real bear to start. After that every day it's fine unless it sits that long again.

Really? so you basicaly just put oil in the gas tank with no extra mods to the engine?
Have you had any problems with it? cause thats a freakin amazing idea XD

I have the same issue if i let it sit. Does it run super rough when u do start it up after a week or so?? I think its a stuck apex seal on startup.

OP have u tried running seafoam thru the tank to see if it helps? When it stalled when u took it around for a spin was it fully warmed up?? have u tried to reset the AFM and idle screw after it warms up?

don't want to overdo it, but a half oz. per gallon doesnt foul the plugs and adds a little extra lubrication which is good. that and changing the oil every 4K helps too.

Op, what kind of premix are you adding? is it synthetic? Also, check your fuel delivery system. I had an issue similar to this on an old e30. The car would run fine under 2500rpm, but under increased load would "bog" down. It turned out to just be something as simple as a clogged fuel filter.
