Have you bought a new carpet?
Just trying to do some research as to how much people have spent on there capets.. I have looked around and found prices from 119 to over 300 buks.
so far I am leaning to jcwhitney but I am not sure if there going to fit just right, then again anything is posible with enough glue??
I also will need to replace the insulation so anyone know some where cheap or something thats comparable say at homedepot that cost like $20.. lol
I am going to be an extreamly cheap basturd.. I can not let my wife know I am still spending money on the car, she thinks I am done with it and will soon sell it.. lol

I ordered a carpet kit from the infamous J.C.Whitney, then returned it because it didn't fit. I personally would not order anything from them unless it was a common part that you knew would definitely fit.....
I usually wait for a member to advertise some or keep my eyes peeled on ebay... I did get lucky once and get a parts car that had a complete pristine upholstery set from seats to carpet and everything else for less then I could of bought it new for and still sold off the car.....

so.. j.c whitney is a bad choice for carpets.
curious.. did you try to use any kind of adhesive or underpadding?
and when you replaced the rug under the dash.. did you have to remove the dash, I had a hard time pulling one out once, I had to cut it.

Drunk: For getting the carpet out from under the dash i cut it too, i made a small slice along the transmission tunnel underneath the dash, and a little duct tape underneath while re-installing.
as for the insulation, youll love this:
most dedicated carpet&flooring stores sell underpad: polyurethane foam (wont rot) for really cheap. But why bother buying it when they THROW OUT the leftovers from big jobs? just scoot by your local carpet stores after closing and take a peek in their dumpsters... ive gotten enough underpad for four different vehicles this way... and its less flammable than the cotton stuff that usually comes with these cars

Teamzzyzx(something like that) has redone his whole interior and he went with A1auto I think. Here's the thread. https://www.rx7club.com/1st-generation-specific-1979-1985-18/beginnings-new-carpet-black-interior-conversion-587864/

In this picture you can see the two bolts, one on each side of the dash at the bottom. And on the floor you can see part of the bar. If you look between the e-brake handle and the shifter you can see one of the two bolts on the floor.
Also has anyone ordered from Fryer's Auto Upholstery www.autoupholsterykits.com ?
They have an option of choosing what kind of carpet that you want. I was thinking about getting the 80/20 Loop instead of the cut pile. More of a seventies look maybe but I don't think that I like cut pile very well.
Shown in grey for a better view of the carpet. I'll get black.

I had excess on every side of the carpet except for the passenger side. It almost looked like the piece of carpet was not centered in the mold. No biggie I thought, then I put it in, and the passenger side molding was off. The seat brackets on the floor didn't line up with those on the carpet. Tried to make it work. Didn't like the way it came out on that side of the car, so I'll be re-ordering the carpet for the front.

are you freaking serious! lol I had a maroon interior thats all faded out. I was going to switch the interior for the '85 interior. I got everything out of the '85 and allmost took everything out of the '82. THEN lost interest. I want a black interior. I am going to dye everthing I can black and switch the rugs to a black and then in the future sometime, get some red seats.
I checked that sight out. nice, 112 for the carpet set. thats cool. I might invest in that one. allthough the one from A1auto also looks attractive.

I think the better thing to do is just buy OEM in good shape and dye it .. even if its second hand, 95% of my carpet is in excellent condition, i have the brown but i'm planning on dying it to black, i Picked up the whole rear carpet of a car in the junk yard for 10$ and it was Mint ... coincidentally it was brown ... I'm planning on oging back out there to see if I need anything else.
