OR Have new KYB Strut Mounts, but.......

-'84 gsl se

O.K., I've just received my second set of these from "PartsGeek". The first set had one with a dent in the bottom of the bearing seal (dont really know all my technical lingo) and the other bearing was not sealed as i looked down at it from the top (I can see the actual ball bearings) whereas the one with the dent was sealed. I just received my second set after sending the first ones back and darn it if one of them is not sealed again! (Am I being clear w/ my description?) So, do I send these back too? Are they supposed to be sealed or not? I'm a rookie. Help. I'd like to go get these from a shop here in town because I hate ordering things online and I like to see my purchases first hand, but no one seems to have them.

Also, the car seems to have sagged slightly in the front. Should I have my mechanic put shims in while he's doing the struts, etc.? If so, where are they available?

Thanks,
-Marty

Check out www.re-speed.com

Best products and outstanding customer service. If you have any questions at all about what you need, just send Billy a private message (Bwaits). He is on this forum a lot and will gladly assist you with parts advice.

And yeah, KYB is junk so return those parts if you can. Good luck.

I would send them back and get Tokico HP (blues) or Illuminas if money is no object. KYBs don't last long. IMG I'm agreeing with Wacky again

Springs are more responsible for sagging then shocks.

I think he means upper strut mounts not the struts themselves, I'm not familiar with the FB but I would guess they should always be sealed bearings.

Red face KYB, Tokiko, Illuminas: I want what will LAST!

Thanks for the good word. I have already checked out the re-speed site and will contact them tomorrow. And yes, Nismo, I am speaking of the upper strut mounts and if they need to be sealed then these WILL go back and I will be talking to re-speed about an alternative. Although, I was not able to find a Tokiko strut mount on their site. As far as the sagging, can I put a shim on the existing spring or what are my options? Thanks again.

If the suspension is sagging, then either the springs are worn out or the shocks are shot. New shocks of good quality may take care of it, and that's what I would try first. But if that doesn't raise the car back to a stock stance, then you may have to look into some replacement springs.

Just send billy a PM (Bwaits) and he'll put you on the right track. Good luck.

OR re-speed

I've been in contact w/ Billy and you're all right... He's one helpful guy and you can tell he's honest. I only wish I lived where he lives and that I had unlimited cash so I could have him have his way with the car. Tokico it is!

I went RB Springs and Tokico Front and Rear Plus Poly's Bushings and love the Response. I do alot of Coastal and Mountain driving weekly. If it's Posted 10mph I drive them curves @ 50-60 and have never lost control.
Of course I invested in Great Tires and Rims which helps alot'

I bought KYB's 4 1st gen ago 1994. They where garbage. ie leaking and horriable
handling
Go with Tokico or Respeeds set up and you will not have any more headaches.
Just remeber to change out the springs cause if you are running the stock ones you will not be gaining much handling difference.

PS Don't forget to put in 1oz of Trans fliud or antifreeze in the Strut Housing before you install the Strut. Helps with Heat disburtion.
There are alot of writeups about this.

Thanks! I'm on that road already. RB springs and Tokico blues all the way around w/ poly bushings.
