Has your's or a friends 1st gen ever been stolen or broken in too?

Now i know that extreamly modified cars will attract the criminal element, but has anyones "mostly stock" rx7 ever been broken into or stolen? If so, when, cause if it's, for example, an '85 and it was stolen or broken into in '85 then that kinda makes sense, but if it was an '85 and the crime happened in 2000 then that's a different story.

Also, what kind of security do you have for your 1st gen? All I have is one of those Club bars that go on the steering wheel.

i just leave it unlocked, wide open.. a manual car is enuff of a theft deterrent to start with, but following that with an engine that hates starting and a clutch that slips 9/10 times in reverse, if they can get it without bein noticed, they damn well deserve it

If someone steals my car, oh well, i only paid 1000 for it, and plus I will get insurance money for 1200. But no, no one has broken into mine yet, but it has some dents, but it does have some nice rims, which i'm suprised aren't gone yet with me working in the ghetto sometimes.

some bastard broke into my mostly stock 85 GS years ago and made off with about 200 CDs, my deck, amp, speakers, speaker box and a bunch of personal items that made absolutely no sense for them to steal... you can say i was pretty pissed.

my buddys streetported 85 was also stolen in banff by some meth freak, he drove it like 20 minutes away and checked into a hotel, leaving it parked in the middle of the road. suffice to say he was busted pretty quickly.

Had my pristine but bone stock '81 GSL 5-spd stolen in October of 1990. No alarm or theft deterrent except locked doors. The ****** pried out both door locks (why the hell both?) and destroyed the ignition lock. Got it back the next day.

The very nice stock '85 GSL we just bought for my wife two months ago almost got stolen from the previous owner less than a month before we bought it. Fortunately the owner caught the punks in the act and scared them off, but not before they destroyed both door locks.

So these cars are still very likely to get stolen if in reasonably good shape and not immobilized. The club is good for cracking theives across the skull and not much else--- theives simply saw through the steering wheel and voila--- the car is now theirs.

Best to install a well-hidden electric fuel-pump shut-off switch (do not install it under the dash, that's the first place they'll look). The car will crank until Christmas but not start until you throw the switch. This won't keep your car from being broken into, but it will still be parked where you left it after the theives have given up.

yeah i was going to mention a kill switch, easy to install and helps out a lot if you ever flood your car aswell.

even with a kill switch someone could logically steal the car and drive a few blocks before the car shut down, the fuel in the float bowls and fuel lines seems to be enough to run for a minute or two.

just get a normal switch from any parts store and wire it into the positive wiring of your fuel pump wiring, which is located behind the drivers side storage bin, if you pull up the matting stuff you can see where the wiring goes down through a hole under the car. splice that up and run the wire to a switch.

Regarding a killswitch, I've made it a habit of pulling the FI fuse (been using a 2nd gen fuse there for easy in/out, instead of the fabric fusible link) Pain in the butt for most, perhaps, but since I don't drive it every day, it's no biggie to me as of yet.

I figure it might prevent someone from driving off with it - and if they look for a killswitch under the dash or whatever, they won't find one.

Years ago some punk broke into my '82 GSL. It was in the summertime because I was foolish enough to leave a little opening of the sunroof for ventilation, and leaving it outside. The punk bent the passenger side back and used a long hook made out of a clothes-hanger-like wire and unhooked the lock. Again it was my foolishness to not replace the fuse on my alarm system.

This punk took my factory premium sound system, consisting of the Clarion AM/FM tuner with cassette deck in one unit, and the Clarion graphic equilizer, but I still have the joystick balancer. The punk didn't take anything else when this happened. The punk knew what he was doing because nothing was damaged, and left the screws.

A few months later I believe the same punk came back to steal one of my original rim. He used a cheap jack. The puny jack couldn't support my car, being on a slanted driveway, and it gave, but it was too late because the punk had already made it out with my rim. The driver rear end fell hard on the pavement which caused the backing plate on this side to be bent, but still driveable. If you look closely on your stock 13" rim, it prints the month and date your car was assembled. I have 3 82 rims and one 84 rim. Being a diehard fan of the 1G RX-7, this kinda bugs me a little.

Lesson learned, but these incidents still pisses me off to this day. My preimium sound system is gone, and I have a rim that doesn't match my year. Keep your RX-7s safe. Maybe a Prolock would be good because you need a chip plugged in to get the car to start, and you can mount the thing where the chip goes in very discreetly. Ususally the car thiefs don't know about this I heard.

back in 98 when i lived in north houston someone tried to break into my car. i went out to go to school on morning and noticed a large brick laying behind my car(and still being half alseep didnt think anything about) when i started driving down the road i noticed my rear wiper was messed up. i got to the store and realized it was broke and my rear window had a chip in the glass. i assume they were trying to steal my stereo i had 2 subs, amp, and a cd player. the car was stock looking except for my rims. i still havent figured out how the window didnt break unless hitting the wiper somehow saved it.

78~80's very easy to swipe

My first RX-7 was a 1979 GT Limited (JDM model) that I bought in 1985. The first 3 years of the SA22C here in Japan were very easy to steal (found out the hard way) it happens that you can unscrew the 6 philips screws that hold the rear left taillight, reach your arm through, and pop the rear hatch without damageing the car in any way shape or form.

the people that stole mine did it this way, then the broke the column lock in privacy and drove off and stripped the car of its weber, manifold, CDI system, headaer and exhaust, suspension and wheels.

I never did catch them (this was 1986) but if I had all hell would have broken loose.

Two days ago, when I got up, still half asleep, opened the door to check the mail, noticed the widebody wasn't parked out front. Nearly had a heart attack. Then I remembered I parked it in the back to check the tires and air them up the night before. That is not the way to get the blood pumping in the morning.

i have never had a problem with theft, but i've only owned my car for 2 years, and i live in an area where you need 4wd half of the year. i doesn't sound like the 1st gen is as much of a hot item as are the sounds systems, wheels, and engine parts. in my town the modified hondas always get jacked and parted out to their owners

our's has never been broken into (or if they did, they could get it started and were kind enough to lock it again) however, my gf has locked herself out three times now, and with my slim jim i can get inside in under a minute..
there was also the time when she lost her grandmothers ring in my car... (she was very distressed).. so later that night i found it, jimmed the car (in the driveway) and ziptied the ring and a note to the steering wheel. she made it about 20 meters before she noticed the ring... gotta let her get more sleep *grin*

uh, so yeah: do something about those door locks.

My exceptionally nice '82 Rx7 was broken into across the street from my house in 2003. I must say it was kind of my fault.

It was the first time I ever left her out side in 2 yrs, it was 4:30 in the morning I was drunk, I was up all night at my ex GF house, It was cold *** hell and I would have had to move my moms car out of the way to park the 7 inside the garage. I figured I would go inside and sit down for a minute and then move my car. Too make it worse I left everything in the car I left the deck face on (my 5 month old $500 Alpine Deck) my cell phone on the floor and my back pack with all my school books and about 200 Cd's and my wallet in the glove box.

Need less to say I fell asleep when I went inside. At 7:00 am when I was leaving my house to go to school I saw my drives side window was smashed, my deck ripped out, my back pack, wallet gone, and only one cd case. For my security I had a bright yellow club left on the floor and my alarm... well I just didn't turn it on.

Add to the fact that had liability only insurance and I was out well over 1G.
I now usually wake up at least once a night to check on my 240sx, the 7 doesn't leave the garage.

My stock 82 was broken into years ago...around 1994 I guess. She had a alarm system, but that didn't help. They got in through the door and then stole some stuff from the inside of my car and rummaged through the glove box. Still pisses me off to this day that someone got into my car, but at least she was still in one piece.

Now my 82' is my parts car...

My 84 GS, on the other hand, was broken into about a year or so ago right in front of my house. The bastards broke the driver's side lock (it's still busted) and, again, rummaged through my comparments but got away with nothing. Well, wait. They got away with the remote control to the complex where I used to live. Idiots!

Now, I'm happy to say, my baby is in the garage every night and that's just where I like her to be. I trust no one. My car looks good for an 84 GS and I'm overly paranoid about her getting broken into or stolen. I've got to get a new alarm system on her soon (the one I had went out.)

So, yea...both of my 7's have been broken into. Such a great world we live in!
