drifters use it, the simple way to explain it is it makes it so you you turn the wheel less, so if you turn the wheel a half turn with it its like turning the wheel a half turn.

The biggest problem is our shaft and box are one unit and would be a PITA to get one to work. I've been thinking about it for a while myself and will do more research once I get off my but and get a R&P setup.

I'm sure it wouldn't be too hard to adapt if you wanted, but either way you will still have that play in your steering wheel.

Step 1. Get very heavy dumbbells.
Step 2. Curl them about 100 times a day, per arm.
Step 3. Put weights on your steering wheel.
Step 4. Do the same with the steering wheel as the dumbbells.
Step 5. Do this for two weeks.
Step 6. After two weeks, remove weights from the steering wheel.

Your arms should be strong enough to whip that steering wheel a lot quicker than before.

sounds cheaper than anything else available. if you want cheap go for this one other wise go with the respeed units they are more expensive but more reliable

If you have a manual unit, install a ps unit, it has a quicker ratio.

A friend of a friend had a quickener on a Fiat X1/9 auto-x car. It also had a power steering system put in as well. IIRC the car was about 1 turn lock to lock and on a auto-x course you never had to go more than about 90 degrees either way with the wheel. It was an evil system to learn to drive because anybody who got in the car spun out in the first turn. Once you got used to it it was a blast to drive.

Keep in mind the effort will double if you double the ratio. That's why the Fiat ended up with power steering.

That was Man in Black. We're working on doing a unit for my car, and we've already taken a lot of the pictures for the coming writeup, but its not exactly the highest priority for either of us right now.

I drove his car with the modified box, and the steering was light as a feather and felt very quick. Hopefully he can repeat this for my car. If so, he will be a hero of this community in very short order. Don't expect anything on it until Spring though. We both have too many projects in the works right now that are taking a higher priority...

Cool Quicker

Theres about ten different models you can chose from. There made in both 1 1/2 to 1 and 2 to 1. And YES!!! Power steering is a must as it makes turning the steering wheel much harder. After I put power steering on the car, I had to go to 50 weight oil in the power steering, because it steered too easy. Been there/ done that.

Pretty sure that it had something to do with a mustang gear box right? Any idea on year or model so that those of us who plan on doing this can get the parts ready??

No idea. Man in Black might be able to help if you PM him... His original thread on this is in the archive, even though it was not finished. Check that out.

Talked to a guy who put a steering quickener on his REPU. I think it was a 1.5:1 ratio. He said the steering effort was increased only slightly more at slow tight parkinglot turns but fine everywhere else.

And yea, a higher ratio box is a much easier way to go.

I did a steering quickener. Sorry for the crappy phone pics. It can be done fairly easy as seen in pics if you use a inline quickener. It was used for drifting and worked great with only 2 turns lock to lock.
