Every morning I have a hard time starting the car. I crank it for a while and nothing happens. I do this repeatedly until it starts to fire up. When it does fire up it usually dies. But once I do get it running and let it warm up it runs great. I can leave the car at work and come back five hours later and it starts up fine. Any ideas what the problem is? I suspect the carburator but would apreciate someones experienced advice. Thanks.

Are you pulling the choke out?

I crank the engine until it finally try's to start. Once it does that I start pulling the choke accordingly. But I still have to do that a few times.

I drop the pedal to the floor twice, hold in the gas at about 1/4, and then start to crank. It usually starts right up, then I use the choke to let it idle higher til it's warmed up. It's still a bitch to start sometimes though.

I think there's something mechanically wrong with the car. But maybe I should wait until I finish the tune-up, that may very well fix everything.

Besides that, I can't really complain. I bought the car from an abandoned auto auction for ninety dollars(Strait body and perfect interior)! New plugs and the ATF trick later I drove it home.

I quickley pump my pedel 6 times and turn it over, usually fires within 3-4 turns. then hold the gas at 2500 rpm till the oil pressure comes up and hold it there for about 10 secs, then it idles perfectly.

my car is pretty bad in the morning too, mine carb is fucked up right now too, so i just pump mine about 5-7 times and then hold out the choke when starting, and she usually fires right up. its always scary when i have to start my car, the 2 times it didnt start on me freak me out, one time it was cuz of a bad bat. and the next time was a stupid fluke, it wouldnt start when i had the clutch in, but then when i let it out it would start, how wierd is that.

That sounds like mine. What I do is turn it over real quick without doing anything, pump the gas twice, turn if over again for 2 or 3 seconds, pump the gas twice more then she fires up good. I'm pretty sure why mine doesn't want to start up easy is that I looked through the sight glasses after she had sat a day and the bowls had no gas in them. My fuel pump doesn't run until you atleast turn the engine over. I am pretty sure it's just taking some time getting fuel up there. I had a different carb on there at one point, and it would cold start just fine (well, a cloud of white smoke from excess gas).

Pull out the choke BEFORE you start cranking.

...and you shouldn't have to press the gas to the floor so many times. Once will do.

I dont even have to turn mine over, just bump the key and she roars to life.
