Gutted interior opinions
-Talking with my buddy today I realized that the 23 year old interior in my '82 GSL isn't as much of a shame to strip out as it used to. I'll keep the seats, dash, and door pannels for now. And I'll keep the carpet in good shape in case I ever want to put it back in. But I've heard that the car turns into a buzz box and that it becomes full of little squeaks and rattles. Is this true? And does any one know about how much weight you save? I've searched but not found my awnsers, I'm thankful for any information, thanks in advance.

usually all those squeaks and such are actually the interior panels moving around from loose screws. removing everything from the rear seats back you might lose 20-25lbs depending how far you get into it. yank the spare tire/jack everything that doesnt need to be in the car to lose the most weight. the rest is just the speaker panels and carpet.
i say go for it, makes it easier to spot if water is coming into the hatch area and spot rust aswell. its not a lot of weight but in these tiny cars it makes a difference.

remove the tarmat ****, i saved 48lb's from doing the whooole car. remove the bins and all that other junk behind the seat. get a fiber glass hood and if you have a rear wiper takeit out. you can easily get these cars to 2000lbs flat, and actually it's not too hard to get them under but it all depends on how much work you wanna do. just think, 2000lbs and only 200rwhp = 12's in the 1/4 mile I LOVE IT!

By removing all of the rear interior pieces including the spare and jack, I took off 80 pounds.
If you gutted absolutely everything from the interior except for the drivers seat, dash, and controls then stripped your engine bay of everything uneccessary (AC, windshield washer fluid, emissions, cold start fluid, etc.) and put on a header and straight pipes, you might be down to 2,050-2,150 depending on what options your car has. If you were going that far you could also get lexan/polycarbonate windows and hatch which would take off another 40 pounds or so. Of course by that point you'd want to put in a roll bar which would add 50+ pounds.
If you still want the car as a daily driver, you probably wouldn't want to go that far. I stripped out my interior and it was way noisy. You can hear every creak of the suspension and every pebble that gets thrown into the wheelwells, and all kinds of strange sounds that you usually don't know what to make of. In the end I left the insulation out but kept the carpet in, though I still have only the essentials in the engine bay.

I did it, I regret it because the interior of a 20+ yr old car needs a lot of work and looks like **** (if you're going for both looks and lightness). I don't miss the rear bins though I just wish that I could re carpet the car without the bins. its up to you. if you do strip it, put a cage in it, etc... then do the interior well.

Unless your car is in bad shape on the inside I'd keep the interior in if it's mainly a street driven car. Unless you're just bord and don't care how your car looks. I stripped mine, then decided to redo all of the panels and put carpet back in.

I'd agree with that ^^^. In my FB I took out everything electrical, in my SA I've had to scrape out all of the sound deading due to surface rust, and I'd say that's about right.
